it's not lemon with chocolate frosting..

It's for my granddaughter's birthday tomorrow.. She had a party with friends earlier this evening that I attended, but I saved her "special" gift for when she's here this weekend.. Gotta have a cake and gift ON your birthday, right?

It's a cherry chip Duncan Hines, but of course I had to fiddle around with the recipe.. LOL I substituted half the water with cherry juice, folded in some freshly chopped maraschino cherries and will also put some cherries in between the two layers of the cake.. Then it will be frosted with chocolate frosting..

No fear of this one turning out yucky.. I baked it for my DD's birthday last month and everyone LOVED it!

Cake and coffee at my place tomorrow..

Oh C.Ann you are the cake master. I've been craving the root beer float cake lately, but I'm going to have to wait until after I get back from my vacation. What I wouldn't give for cake and coffee at your place.

You know..i'm gonna have to get with you for some of these recipes!! I would love to be able to bake flavors other than the normal box mixes for the cakes I decorate!! I've got the icing down...just need to work on cake flavors now!

The only one i've done that's not just a box mix is a champagne cake. I would really love to expand my cake repitoire!!

Not really.. I think that lemon cake with the chocolate frosting pretty much blew any chance I had of becoming the next Betty Crocker.. sob..choke..sniffle..

I've been collecting muffin recipes for years - I have thousands of them - and in the past couple of years I've started collecting cake recipes too - the more unusual, the better.. And then of course I tend to do some experimenting on my own when I'm using cake mixes..

I also baked a cake tonight for dd's 9th b-day tomorrow! I baked the Duncan Hines Devil's Food Pound Cake recipe on the side of the box. Of course, chocolate frosting on top and I bought some icing for dd to decorate.
