I was in the same situation last month. We had a major thunder and lightning storm at the end of June, and the only thing majorly affected was my computer (I lost my modem). The computer repair place kept my PC for 3 weeks, and it still wasn't fixed. So, I took it to a second repair place, and $200+ later, I finally had my computer back. I also found his discharge papers from the Air Force, and his records from Engineering school. I found out that he received his degree after 5 years, but according to his transcript, he took classes another 2 years for a total of 7 years. Aren't the storms a killer? A couple years ago I lost a TV set due to a thunderstorm.
Quite an expense to replace it. Last week when they had the tornadoes about 45 minutes north of here, we had some wicked storms. It seemed like the lightening just hovered over the lake in the back. I heard a humming coming from one of the electrical toys. The TV had shut off because of the lightening. That came back on no problem. Last night I wanted to watch a DVD...dead as a door nail! 
I guess that humming was from the DVD player. I'll be waiting for Target to put one on sale.
