Hello everyone- my first post.
By the title you can probably guess I am the DH of Tiger Lily. Here is the scoop on her surgery.
Wednesday was a long day. Got to the hospital just after 11:00am. She went into the pre-op section. I waited a long time before I got called in. Reason why-no beds. She sat in their waiting area until a bed was available.
Finally got in to wait with her. There was a visit from the happy feel good lady and then at the stroke of 1:00 pm the doctor appeared and discussed again what was going to happen. A few minutes later it was time to go. I said good bye and then the wait.
Around 1:30 pm got a call from the OR nurse saying they couldn't do what they wanted because it was too big. They are now starting the big surgery. (Now I'm shook-up.... is it the Big C)
A little after 3:00 pm the doctor came out to talk with me. The first words were it was not cancer. Tears came to my eyes. I have my Lily for 30 more years. He went on to explain what was next in the plans and to just wait until someone calls me. He is going to try to get her up in the maternity ward. The key word is WAIT!
Everyone was gone from the waiting room but one other family. The phone rang and it was the post-op nurse telling me she is sleeping and will be taken later to a room. She gave me a room number but I didn't know where it was. We'll call you.
Around 5:30 pm I got another call to head up to the 3rd floor and wait outside. She will be passing the waiting area. Went to the 3rd floor and it was the maternity floor. Waitied in the lobby as instructed. Finally she came by me. Got a quick kiss in and then WAIT.
Finally someone came out to get me. There she was-all doped up and groggy and hurting. I sat and just looked at her as she went in and out of sleep. She got to have a cup of ice, some cranberry juice and a little jello. That was it. I told her not to fight the sleep because I was there. Got the phone and TV set up. Finally I told her I was going so she could rest.
The next day (Thursday) wasn't as bad as she thought it would be but she still hurt and was still groggy. She didn't have an appetite but tried to eat. Hospital food just doesn't match home cooking.
The doctor came in and checked her. All looked good. Mentioned that she might go home on Friday. She was up an out of the bed a few times and was able to use the bathroom. Even took a little walk in the halls.
Friday came along and the doctor showed up. He finally told her that when he first saw inside her with the scope, it didn't look good so he did the big cut. The biopsy took him by suprise. He gave us the going hme speech and away we went after the nurses did their thing. Friday evening was just resting.
Saturday was just rest.
Well here we are and it's Sunday. She's in and out of the bed, taking short house walks and resting. She thanks everyone for their thoughts and prayers and she said that she could really feel the good vibes from all of her DIS friends.
She thinks she will be able to get bak online in a day or two. She sends her greatful thanks to everyone. So do I.
