I haven't been about much this year as its been a bit of a 'mare to say the least.

My Mum was diagnosed with cancer (4th time) at the start of last year and although she felt the best she had for ages for much of the year she started to go downhill towards Christmas and then got worse from then on.

She spent 2 weeks in a hospice and then 3 in a care home before passing away on Mother's Day :( . We are doing OK, she was so calm and brave through it all and, sad as we are, there is a real sense of relief that she is no longer in pain. It has been a steep learning curve what with choosing care homes, organising the funeral and starting the probate process (the joys of being the only child of seperated parents!)

I just wanted to say thank you to you all for giving me a sense of escape from all the stresses and upset. I didn't want to say anything before as ( especially with the media obsession with Jade Goody - which was hard to avoid!) it was nice to have a place to go to 'relax' and 'forget' for a few moments.

Mum told me to have a Disney holiday after she'd gone and so we are planning for Easter 2010 which is giving me something nice to do amongst all the other unpleasant stuff.

So thanks for all the entertaining threads - I'll stop lurking again now and join in!

Cheers

We're going through just this with my dad at the moment and it's heartbreaking to see him suffering while keeping a brave face about it all.

Glad to see you back Jo, I think I commented on your FB status on the day you lost your mom. I'm so sorry.
Glad that we can all be of service and get you smiling! :goodvibes

Jo, so sorry to hear your sad news. Glad to see you back again and please know that your friends are all here for you

Sorry to hear about your sad news:hug: My dad is an only child & had to sort everything himself when his mother died so I know how difficult it is. He did the probabte himself which was a lot cheaper then going through a solicitor so not sure if that is any help.

I'm so sorry for your loss

I have been there, I lost my dad to cancer 8 years ago he was very young only 47 and never made it to the hospice!
I understand your relief that she is no longer in pain but heartache that she is gone.
It will take a while but you will be able to smile at her memory one day instead of feeling sad.
I hope your grieving is as short as possible.
HUGS :grouphug:
