We're still working out an after school schedule for DD and until it's setup, I pickup DD on my late lunch and drop her off by DW who is just getting off work.

DW trains people on computers at one of the larger hospitals in the area. I drop DD off at the front entrance. When we were waiting for DW to come up to meet us, there were numerous people sitting around in a little area with a bunch of benches. There were a few people sitting there - obviously patients, some with numerous IV's - SMOKING.

Sheesh, I know it's a hard habit to break, but when you're in the hospital sick? Hard to believe it has such control over peoples lives.

One of my uncles was sick with emphysema for years. He was never healthy. He had oxygen at home and still smoked even with the tubes in his nose. It was awful. One of his kids smoked, I don't see how after watching his father die his slow death.

I know it looks unbelievable but take it from one who has seen it and lives it......I DON'T KNOW WHY!!! Yes , you know it is unhealthy but you love it. Yes, you know it is gross but you love it. You know all these things but you do it. Please do not flame me for it. It's just me and to be honest it SHOCKS people when they find out I do. It is like my last little rebellion (That is just my feeling not others) I actually only smoke in the evenings. Go figure:rolleyes:

Me too except, I don't think I Love it. I do it, I enjoy it, I guess. It's an addiction. :(

I can't begin to tell you the stupid things I've done while hospitalized just to smoke. :(

Sorry Brittany had to walk through that awful 'fog' though. :(

I haven't ever smoked, and am glad for it, because if I had ever started, I'd probably be one of those folks smoking outside the hospital, IV and all!

Years ago, when smoking was allowed inside the building, patients and staff smoked all the time. We had patients who had tracheotomies, and you'd see them smoking through the hole in their neck!!!!!!!!!!!I am amazed that nothing ever happened. Strangely enough, just a couple of years ago, when my hospital had been non-smoking for about 4 or 5 years, a patient smoking in bed blew up his oxygen, caused a huge fire in the room, requiring evacuation. A respiratory therapist(ironic, no?)ran into the burning room and pulled he and his roommate out, because the nurse that was in the room when the explosion/fire happened ended up having a heart attack. Anyhow, the gentleman who was smoking ended up dying from the injuries he sustained (burns and smoke inhalation), his roommate ended having a prolonged hospitalization due to smoke inhalation, and the nurse ended up out of work for 6-8 weeks recuperating from her heart attack. The moral to the story: It's not an "urban legend" when we tell you that if you smoke around the oxygen, it can blow up!!!!!

Smoking is a powerful addiction. I watched it slowly kill my Mom. She knew it was killing her and couldn't stop. I watcher her, as she had just been admitted to the hospital, ask the resp. therapist to wait to hook up her oxygen as she got in one last smoke!!!! Amazing yes...sad yes...powerful yes. If you haven't started DON"T!!

I work in a hospital and I see this all the time. Its riduculous!

Just as bad- I see nurses and doctors outside smoking! You'd think they'd know better!
