Dh and I made a "date" to watch According to Jim last night. We've been looking forward to it. So, I get the baby to bed on time, pop some pocorn....only to have the show PREMPTED by an ACC basketball game. :(

Oh well, I know it was a Carolina game (usually, this takes precedence in this state)...but we were really looking forward to it!

GRRRRR!!!! Now that we've missed this AND DCL is not on the Travel Channel in the next 14 days, I guess we are resigned to watching the video again!

Amy;)

I couldn't wait to see the show and got the whole family excited about it only to be very diasppointed! You didn't see much of the ship. They definately used a sound stage set up for the cabin shots (WAY TO MUICH OF A ROOMY CABIN!). I have never watched the show before and I thought the story line was too hokey. I am not a big sitcom fan. I really hate laugh-tracks, especially when there isn't anything funny. I probably will watch the conclusion next week just to get a glimpse of the ship but that will be the last of "Jim" in my lifetime. Just MHO.

Amy, someone else posted about the preempt and said AtoJ would be rebroadcast tonight at 1:05am. Set your vcr.

I noticed that too---about the room. Also, the water never moved outside the verandah. Since they only made it to the ship half way through the episode--maybe next week's will have more ship shots and Castaway Cay is coming up next week too.

WIth a teenage boy in the house we usually watch ESPN of FSN. We watch very little tv and after watching the "Jim" episode, I remember why. The entro was funny (the 3rd kid he brought home wasn't his) and other than that the show was pretty whinny. They did have a few good shots of the Magic (exterior and atrium) and showed the sail away party. Other than that the show wasn't worth watching (IMHO). Oh yea, I saw some of Key West that I hadn't seen before (unless it was an exterior studio set)

I agree, the show was a disappointment. We also noticed the water did not move. They were not in a cabin, it was fake, close but not "true". Thought the Key West part was cheesy. "Crime Scene tape??????"

I thought it was kind of hokey myself...only watched it cuz of the ship. Did the actors really sail with them? I was wondering if they had to sleep with the crew if they did. Does anyone know? Melissa

I was wondering about the cabin myself!! I didnt think the ship had bunkbeds???? I know about the pull down beds...but bunk beds?? Can anyone tell me if i am right?? or am i just crazy??:earseek:

Strange about the prempt...we weren't preempted on our local station...(being a Carolina grad and fan I can only say that at least you can gauge an early Spring by whether or not Carolina is choking--we're bound to have good weather by mid-March!)

I also was disappointed in the ship shots...hopefully more next week? My son wonders if he can push Goofy off the stage and get away with it!

I agree, pretty hokey show. The wooden bunkbeds aren't in any of the staterooms I've seen. Still, it was fun to see the ship, the atrium and the deck party. Part 2 will be showing Castaway Cay, so that will be fun to see.

It makes no sense to me. A school that is in the western part of the state has a game that is only shown on the East coast of the state. ACK!!!! Yes, last night's show is on tonight on WITC 12 at 1:05 am. WWAY 3 was last night at 1:05 am.

The good news is that I got next week's TV Guide today & the show is being shown on all the ABC stations at the correct time!!!

Most likely the cabin shots were done on a soundstage with DCL props like the lamp, bedspread, picture over the bed, etc. I have sailed 10 times and never, ever saw bunkbeds like that and we have been in several different types of staterooms.

I am sure the cabins on DCL would not have been big enough for all the equipment needed to shoot a scene.

As far as the actors, the Dis'ers who sailed on the 1/17 Magic (the week the show was shot onboard) said they the actors and show staff had rooms all around the ship. Some on Deck 8, some on Deck 2.

They used many of the real CM's in the show. I saw many that I remember from past sailings.
