I never even thought to look through the Dis boards for info on Scrapbooking! I have been procrastinating getting started and have found inspiration here! I am a mommy of 3 little ones (4, 2 and 6 months) so I won't have too much time to get too crazy (yet), but I was curious if you could reach back to your memory banks and tell me how you got started and what those early projects looked like. I am getting a little intimidated by how creative you all are!!!!
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you all!!!!

My first attempt was my disneytrip 1998. I basically pasted my photos on construction paper that I used wavy scisors on to give one edge a wavy look. Then I printed clip art out on regular computer paper to decorate the pages. I also used some stickers. I used a 3 hole hole punch to punch each page and put it in a 3 ring binder.

Pretty sad huh :o

Anywhoo....My next attempt was my Christmas Disney trip and this one I did on "real" scrapbooking paper I got at michaels and even matted my photos and made some toppers using my computer. This was an 8 1/2" x 11" format. Then I found several scrapbook sites and searched through the galleries, started reading magazines participating in swaps anything to get exposure to more ideas and styles.

I was tempted to go back and redo my earlier work, but i just let it stand kind of a reminder of my progress.

First of all welcome. Secondly, we all have beginner pages that we don't "show off" now, it's all part of the process. I suggest you attend a CM class or one at a Local Scrapbook Store and then just take it one page at a time. It's a wonderful hobby. Enjoy.

I started because I wanted to give my niece something really special for her 5 years off chemo party. I took lots of pictures at the party and asked all guests to send me a favorite memory or good wishes etc. At that time, all I knew was to use the acid-free paper, stickers etc. A couple years later, I took a CM class. Now it is an addiction! I asked my niece for her book back so I could redo it and she refused. She loved it just the way it is. I now have her addicted too and we are scrapping her senior year in high school. I am also scrapping books for all seven nieces and nephews instead of just putting the pictures in photo albums for them. I am having a great time remembering all the great things we have done together. I will give each of them their book on their 18th birthday. Your pages will improve with practice. Some days you can do lots of them. Other days, you might complete only one or two. Just have fun!

Welcome to the Recipe/Scrapbook board, Tomskatt!! :) Glad you could join us!! :) You will get lots of helpful scrapbooking advice and ideas from this board!! :):)

Have fun! :)

My first attempt at scrapbooking was a houseboat trip I took in 1995. I didn't really get into scrapbooking until 1996 but had so much fun doing this album (as simple as it is) that I'm hooked. I've only finished one other album - a wedding album for a friend of mine - but I'm currently almost done with a trip to Hong Kong that I took with my sister back in 1997. Of course I have a list about a mile long of others that I need to get done  including my sister's wedding, my wedding, and all of our Disney trips/cruises.

My first attempts were about 3 1/2 yrs ago....quite humorous now when I look at them, but I love to look at them and see the improvements and changes in style that I have made. My biggest advice to newbies is...don't get intimidated by others work...just do what YOU like and that's all that is important! I still look at other's books for ideas and occasionally feel overwhelmed with all the options and ideas, but then I have to put myself in check and just take it a page at a time. Try new techniques often and you'll get the feel for the styles that you like to use. Classes at your local scrapbook store are the best ways to learn techniques, and find a friend that loves scrapbooking, you will enjoy scrapping together, it is so fun to share your ideas and show off your pages! Good luck and come back here often with questions and to share your ideas with us!:D

I look back at my first attempts and laugh. Stickers, stickers, stickers! You tend to use too many stickers when you're first starting out, for some reason. Maybe because there are so many neat ones.

I would suggest picking up a scrapbooking magazine or two to get ideas. My favorite is Creating Keepsakes. I learned a lot about color, composition, cropping and embellishments from that magazine. They also have idea books that are really helpful. I also would look for a buddy to scrapbook with. That way, you can share supplies and not buy as much (hopefully!).

Good luck with your new venture. I also have a six month old and am having a hard time finding the free time to keep up with my scrapbooking. Reading these boards keeps me in the loop!

Welcome to our happy little world! This is a great good to share ideas and infor and of course motivation!
I cringe when I think of my first pages....roughly seven years ago after my first child was born! I had big dreams scrapping each moment (still have that one!)I was so into those sissors! I cut and cut and cut some more then just slapped them down in odd directions! Luckily this was fairly short lived and I have the double safely tucked away and plan to redo my DD first year of life!! Then I stopped and started up again several years after the birth of my second child but I had a problem with glueing...some pages were horizontal and others verticle...don't ask me why I just did I think it was second child brain freeze! Oh I also did spiral bound books too! The pages are actually nice but I hate the spiral!
Now of course I use very little fancy edge sissor cutting, some stickers not alot some die cuts, lots of matting and journaling! and everything in in the right directions! LOL! My style is changing all the time. Hopefully for the better!
Good luck and just remember how ever you scrap you have preserved a moment in time!
