But I really hate to fly! I am tempted to do the drive from Maine to Disney in April 2013, but my DH wants to fly. Plus taking my boys out of school for a few extra days isn't appealing to DH, I don't mind and my boys won't mind either! My son's are used to long drives as we go to Maryland once a year and I love having them pinned in a car forcing them to interact with me. :) I've tried finding direct flights there from Portland, Boston and Manchester but the prices for 4 is outrageous. They are just a bit lower for 1 stop flights, but driving could save us over $1,000 which is a lot! Does anyone think ticket prices are going down anytime soon? I am getting excited to put the final touches on our trip, but the trip down/back is making me crazy. Not to mention flying! (Any words of encouragement here would be great too!) Thanks!

Historically, airfares for April have always been high. I doubt you will find fares going down too much.

This April (2013) school vacation we are driving from MA for the first time. This will be our 12th trip and we have always flown, but the airfare was ridiculous - even with renting an SUV for 12 days, paying for gas and meals each way, and adding in the cost of a hotel stay for one night each way we will save at least $1,000 over the cost of airfare from either Boston or Providence.

The trick to finding better airfare during spring break is taking your kids out of school on Wed or Thurs the week before and then flying home on Wed or Thurs the week of vacation. This is what we did when our kids were in school.

From PWM to MCO the cheapest flights I found for April 10th, is $131 pp or $156 pp on Airtran and $166 pp on United and for April 11th $221 pp on Airtran.

From MCO to PWM the cheapest flights I found for April 17th is $111 per person on Southwest or Delta and for April 18th, $211 pp on United, $215 pp on Delta and $261 pp on Southwest and on the 19th, $189 pp or $215 pp on Delta and $233 pp on Southwest.

If you are going to pull your kids out of school early anyway why not fly if you can find reasonable airfare?

I bought my airfare in Aug and Oct and it has not gone down since.

Good luck!!
