Illuminations logistics question

I hoping to get an Illumunations cruise for our trip. Here's my question: We will be driving our own car
- do we park at Epcot, enjoy the park for a while then walk over to where the dock is, if so how do we get back to Epcot - will it still be open for us to walk back through?
OR - Do we park at the Yacht and Beach Club and go to Epcot -I don't think we can do this because they won't let you park there that long.
OR- We just leave Epcot early and drive to Yacht/Beach club and do the cruise?
OR- am I missing yet another way?
This is our first trip down and I'm not familar with the layout. Can anyone offer me any advice?

Are you staying at a WDW resort? If so, they will probably allow you to park at the YC since you have a parking permit.

If you are spending the day at Epcot, park in the main lot. After Illuminations, ask the skipper to drop you off at the IG dock (where the Friendship boats dock. Then you can walk through Epcot to out the main entrance to your car.

You could park at the YC (marina is at the far end of the YC near the S/D) at around 8 PM.

Another option is to park at MGM (especially if there is a late Fantasmic show)and have the skipper drop you off at the MGM dock, Watch Fantasmic (if you have the hopper option on your tickets) and then drive back to your resort.
