Illuminations in WS

If you are walking around in WS could you see illuminations from almost any vantage point or do you have to stake out a spot close to the water?

I say:
I have never seen "illuminations" before, but maybe you can see it from any spot that you can see the ball. I really don't know, but you would have a better view from the water I'm sure of that.

You will miss much of the show if you can't see the water. It's not just a fireworks show; it's much more! You don't HAVE to be right up to the water with no one in front of you, but you definitely need to see the World Showcase Lagoon in order to fully enjoy and see the show!

Is there anywhere close to the water that you can sit down and watch?

The Mexico CS location. You have to stalk a table though and sit there for a good while to secure your table. Much better than standing around or sitting on the ground for an hour or so !

All the spots where you can sit down and see the show are staked out long before the show, and there is a good bit of competition for some of those spots, too. They do designate a patio at the northern end of the lagoon as a sit-down-only area, and there's a good amount of space for people to sit on the concrete there. While it has also always been full, in our experience, I think it fills last of all the options.

I like standing right at the rail around the lake for Illuminations. We usually stake out a spot ahead of time. You can see Illuminations from many great vantage points. As long as you can see the water, you're OK. Most of it happens near the surface of the water rather than high in the air, like fireworks.

There are some spots, in the Southeastern part of the lagoon, where much of the show will be obstructed by trees on islands in the lagoon -- beware.
