Illuminations Cruise Central--DECEMBER

I have a fireworks cruise at the Grand Floridian for Thursday12/02/04. They were not sure of the time of "Wishes" yet but they said they will give me a boat for whatever time it will be shown (either 8 pm or 10 pm) I am willing to share so please let me know if anyone would like to join us. I prefer a boat with older kids or no kids. There will be four older adults (50's& 60s) but we're not old foggies.

I just called to book a cruise for our trip Dec 5-12. Of course the only day they had availability is Dec 12, when we are coming home. <a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/4/4_6_201.gif' border=0></a>

Desiab, was that Dec 12th availability for the Wishes cruise or Illuminations? There are a few of us that haven't had any luck with Illuminations for that time frame.

I am almost certain it was for Illuminations because I asked her to specifically check for that. She got really excited when she saw it because she thought that was one of the days we could go.

Can anyone tell me which cruise is better, Illuminations or Wishes? I'm guessing Illuminations, as I just tried calling for 12/13 as was able to book Wishes, but Illuminations was all booked.

Can you hear the music on the Wishes cruise?

Thanks.

I also would like to know the difference in cruises. I have the Wishes cruise booked but if it is not as good as Illuminations I will simply cancel. We took the Illuminations cruise last year and loved the fireworks and music. We just could not stand our driver though, who told corny and lame jokes. We haven't heard silly jokes like these since first grade and he wouldn't stop. It might have been okay if there were any kids on board but it was all adults. We didn't pay any attention to him hoping he would stop but alas he didn't. All through the fireworks he talked and teased. I wouldn't go with him again if you paid me. In case you were wondering he was the boat driver from the Boardwalk, but maybe he has rotated somewhere else by now. I sincerely hope he is not doing this job anymore.

How is the Wishes cruise- Illuminations was booked?
We were able to reserve December 21, 2 Adults 2 Children 8 and 12. Would any one like to share? Idosran@tds.net

We've been on both the Wishes and the Illuminations cruises and IMO the illuminations cruise is a better Fireworks Cruise. But the Wishes cruise is a better overall experience if you're lucky.

You'll have a very short tour around the area, and then the boat will cruise on over to sit under the bridge of the international gateway to watch the Illuminations show. It's close up and a very cool uncrowded way to get a gerat view of the show, and very good experience to have at least once. Once the fireworks are complete the boat starts up and you go back to the Epcot dock or one of the Epcot hotels, disembark, and thats it.....

The Wishes cruise on the other hand was almost like a water tour of the lagoon. We were shown the bear face in the Wilderness lodge, heard the story of the Contemporary sinking, went over the water bridge, and basically just mussed aorund for a fair while. Then we stopped and the captain told us to 'Watch over that way' we turned just to see the Water Pagent start about 50 feet away from us.....VERY COOL!!!

Once the pagent was over we cruised on over to sit and float in front of MK and wait for Wishes to start.

We had not yet seen Wishes at that time, and it the cruise was great itself.....

A few nights later when we saw Wishes while sitting in front of the Castle I understood that Wishes was a FANTASTIC show and really not something that could even be considered as 'Seen' if watching from a cruise. You've got to be up close seeing and hearing it all to fully appreciate it.

So, bottom line, both great cruises, but if you're looking for a great Fireworks cruise, then Illuminations is really the only cruise.

The Wishes criuse is probably better thought of as a night time boat tour of the the lagoon that just happens to stop at a 'good' location to watch the fireworks, and MAY afford you the chance to see the water pagent up close.

Of course these were only our experiences, and yours may be different....... If you have any questions, just PM me.

Thanks for the great report Quadman!!! I did Illuminations for our last trip but failed to get one for our upcoming trip this December. I instead went ahead and booked a wishes cruise. I am totally siked to do it now!!!

We have a Wishes cruise to share on 12/13 if anyone is interested... we have 4 adults and my DD (age 4), so that leaves 7 spaces open. It leaves from the Poly at 7:15 pm.. fireworks are at 8:00 pm.

Let me know if you're interested!

I noticed that another DIS'er has a thread regarding Mousefest activities for 12/9-12/13. He's reporting that the group has tentatively secured Illuminations for these nights. Those people who have signed up for their mailing list will be notified first. Here is the link to the thread http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=648730&perpage=15&pagenumber=5 . He's also added the link for the mailing list.

Hopefully this will help some folks who are looking for this time period.
