Illinois teens working past curfew??

Here in Illinois the curfew for 16-year-olds is 11:00 PM Sunday through Thursday and 12:01 AM on Friday and Saturday. Our son works at a theater and is ocassionally scheduled to work past curfew, this is with our permission. I assume that exceptions can be made to curfew restrictions due to work. Do I need to provide a notarized document to that effect that he can carry with him? I can't find anything about it in our local government website or the Illinois DMV. Our governor just signed legislation making the curfew even earlier for those under 18 effective this January. Thanks to anyone who knows the rules on this...

I know that in our area there was an exception if they were going directly to or from work or a school activity. When in doubt, call your local police dept and ask. I've done that in the past and they've always been very polite - they'd rather answer the question now than deal with the problem later.

There are some other rules about youth under 18 how late they can work. This is an IL labor law. Working at six flaggs we couldnt work under 18 past 8pm during school nights and 22 on nonschool nights.

Good advice about calling our local police department. Interestingly enough the first officer I talked to said the curfew was firm. Then he transfered me to their legal department and the woman I talked to was also a mother of a teen. The curfew law was challenged recently as not allowing a teen to exercise their rights (something like that). At any rate, if they are coming home from work and not hanging out and causing trouble they would not be arrested or detained. They could not be randomly stopped unless they were breaking the law. And in our son's case, he would have his cute litte red vest, bow tie, back dress pants, white shirt and black dress shoes on, so it would be pretty obvious he had been working. Plus he would smell like buttered popcorn. I feel better now!
