"Illegal" Pool Hopping.....

Are there gates around most pools? (I know you're not supposed to... :stir: ) but what is stopping someone from pool hopping to Stormalong Bay? Or, what is stopping a non-DVC member from pool hopping anywhere? I know the value resorts don't have gates (not that you'd want to swim there.) But, CBR also doesn't have a gate (not that you'd especially want to pool hop there either.) I'm assuming that maybe deluxe and DVC resorts have a more strict policy......?

There are no fences or gates.

At SAB they give out wrist bands for the pool. During busy times of the year they also give out wrist bands at some of the other DVC resort pools.

Finally, the CM's have been known to walk around the pool areas and ask patrons to show their room keys.

There actually is a fence around Storm-a-long Bay.

Last time we stayed at BCV, there were CM's at all the entrances to Storm-a-long Bay either giving out or checking wristbands.

I've seen them check for room keys poolside when we were staying at AKL (I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my DVC, but there's something about that AKL concierge...) :teeth:

From what I've seen, trying to 'illegally' pool hop seems to be a frustrating, embarrassing waste of time. There are (depending on occupancy) so many 'legal' options, why risk it? When we really just 'had' to play at SAB, we stayed at BCV.

Though not exactly a WDW pool-hopping issue, beach and pool access at VB is extremely restricted as well, as it should be. There's something really wonderful about being able to actually find a place to relax where you're staying. JMHO

I think this is true for SAB only. Ask the WL/VWL guests if others find illegal pool hopping to be a frustrating, embarrassing waste of time.

I understand that Disney does not want a Gestapo attitude with the CM's manning the pools, and many legitimate guests would be offended to have to provide room identification. Still, I wish they'd go ahead and do it.

There are times of the year when I have seen Luna Park fenced off. So when they get kicked out of or can't get into SAB, some people try to get into Luna Park.

I was referrring to SAB only. What I was trying to say is that if you are traveling in a family group (not staying at Y&BC or BCV) and are planning to spend a day at SAB--it is a waste of time and can be embarrassing when you're told to leave or denied entrance altogether. If you know that pool-hopping to SAB is not allowed (and hasn't been been BCV opened) trying to do so isn't worth the risk.

We've never had an issue at WL/VWL--but I find their pool policy confusing (Is the 'Villas' pool for Villa guests use only?). I'm honestly not sure what illegal pool-hopping goes on there.

I don't exactly appreciate a Gestapo attitude, per se, yet I have no problem whatsoever showing my resort ID if needed. I find it more of a protection than an inconvenience--but that's just me.

I remember quite awhile ago folks complaining about day trippers using the OKW pool. These were golfers who after their round came and used the pool They were overheard bragging about it. I'm not sure how wide spread it was or if anything DVC mgt did about it.

People come over from the campground because their pool is not that great. Guests of the VWL and the WL both are entitled to use either pool at WL.

I'd never realized there was 'hopping' from the campground...and as I mentioned, the main pool/villa pool policy confused me. Thanks for clearing things up for me :)

We had friends who were staying at BWI for their vacation...we met them for dinner the other night and they were talking about how nice the resort is and how great the pool was across the way meaning SAB...They had no idea about the term "no pool hopping "or what it even was! They just went swimming! Nobody stopped them or even questioned them...no wrist bands..and that was on 4 of July...go figure. :confused3

They had wristbands in January at SAB...too cold to swim, but that CM was right there ready with them if you decided to brave the water.

We went to Narcoosees one evening and walked around GF pool where there was a very large and noisy family dominating the entire pool. We watched them scoop up all their stuff and head off dripping wet to the boat to the MK. A GF guest we were chatting with told us that she saw them get kicked out of the pool the previous day. Supposedly they were not even staying on property. Now that is some serious pool hopping! :sad2:

Sorry...I misread your post and thought you were referring to all pools. I agree with all your points. My "Gestapo" comment was a reference to some posts of indignation I've seen (not much on this board) when people are asked for identification.

The "Villas pool" at VWL is for all WL and VWL resort guests. This is consistent with all DVC properties that share amenities with a regular resort.

During our recent stay at BWI over Memorial Day weekend they were doing the wristbands at Luna Park.

Can't DVC members pool hop at all resorts except YC/BC/BCV and AKL???? :confused3

Yes--except if the resort is at capacity.

This is from this month's Vacation Magic-which I realize (as a new member of the family) you may not have seen or received yet.

Pool-hopping reminder
"Hopping" to select pools throughout the Walt Disney World Resort is among the many perks of Disney Vacation Club Membership.

Please remember that pool hopping isn't available at Uzima Pool at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge or Stormalong Bay at Disney's Yacht & Beach Club Resorts. Due to expected high occupancy, pool hopping won't be available at any Resort hotel July 1-8, Sept. 1-4 or Nov. 20-26, 2006, or Dec. 17, 2006-Jan. 2, 2007.

Other restrictions also apply to this perk. Complete details are available in Portable Perks and at www.dvcmember.com.

Hope that helps.

Glad we're on the same page. :thumbsup2

Geez, how hard it is to show an ID anyway--unless, of course, you don't have the proper one??? Hmmm.

As to the WL/VWL pool thing:
Thanks for the clarification. I'd heard the opposite at one time, hence my confusion. :confused3

We love love love VWL but after our last 2 stays and we couldn't get near the pools due to the proudly boasting campers we will stay elsewhere until they enforce the rules. We spend a great deal of time poolside so this is a big issue for us.

Im a fan of showing IDs it just doesnt seen like a inconvenience to me. :cool1:

I also find it annoying at WL. People from the campground keep the pools very crowded.
