chicken that is. I finally re-tried cooking a whole chicken in my crockpot and it was wonderful. I use a garlic seasoned perdue roaster (love these) and put it breast side down with no water and it was terrific. So well done it fell apart which was ok because I was serving chicken and waffles. I don't think I have ever been able to pick a chicken this clean before. I can't wait to try that sticky chicken recipe.

MMM! That sounds really good (and easy!)

The sticky chicken recipe sounds delicious - where can I find that one? Thanks!!!

Use the search function. There was a long thread of crockpot recipes about a month ago and the recipe is posted there. I believe it may be by Pumba. Can't wait to try it.

so, do you just put the chicken in the crockpot with nothing else? I have a crockpot, but it's more of a round casserole dish shape, so I'm not sure if I could get a chicken in it or not.

I never used it until I started reading these boards, but I'm still not very adventurous, mostly just chicken pieces or sausages and a jar of sauce.

I just replaced my round one with an oval pot but there was lots of room around the chicken so I would think one would fit in the round pot too.

I just put it in plain because it was already a seasoned bird, no water. It made lots of broth and was very juicy. If I was using a regular chicken I would put onions in the body and use S&P for sure, not sure what else. I think this is what someone else told me to do earlier on this board.

because I was serving chicken and waffles

LOL I've never heard of this. Waffles and garlic chicken? Do you put maple syrup and butter on the waffles?

It just doesn't sound like a good combination to me.

But hey, people think I'm weird that I like peanut butter and lettuce sandwiches too. LOL

My dad, the kitchen gadget freak, got us one of those Showtime Rotisserie ovens & it's amazing! We cook oven stuffers, turkey, ham. steaks, hot dogs & hamburgers (haven't used my grill since we got it!) and last night was 4 cornish game hens. There's a tray on the top for steaming veggies & all of the parts fit in the dishwasher. They come in 3 different sizes and the smallest one is about $100 at Target - we've got the medium one & have done a 14 lb turkey in it!
For a crock pot, I like to fill it with either chicken pieces or ribs & cover them with BBQ sauce & let it cook all day.

I have a round one and a roaster (6-8 lbs.) fits nicely. I don't put anything but the bird. I love how it comes out. pas2 is right---it just falls apart, you can't even lift it out of the crockpot. Since I discovered this I haven't roasted a chicken.

I too love to roast a chicken in the crock pot. I add any kind of spice we like and turn the thing on and go. The really cool trick I now do is after we have taken the chicken out and left the liquid in the pot. I will debone the chicken and put the bones and some veggies in the pot with water to make overnight stock for soup the next day. It really is so very easy. My DH is a soup freak and loves home made stuff. In the morning I take out all of the veggies, bones and what not and put the stock in the fridge to chill so I can skim off the fat and make soup that evening.

I still haven't gotten over the  at this statement in the original post:
because I was serving chicken and waffles
pas2 - Could you PLEASE enlighten us as to this practice?

To recap I mentioned I was using the chicken that came out so wonderfully for chicken and waffles and for some that have never had this tasty meal there was some confusion over whether it was eaten with or without sryup and butter...lol. Well I explained that it was a staple PA Dutch dinner and that is how I grew up eating waffles which were never a breakfast food in our house (and still isn't IMHO). You should try it sometime if you have never had it before, definitely comfort food.

I forgot to mention that the chicken is just leftover chicken in gravy like you would put on a hot chicken sandwich. The chicken I used was a garlic basted chicken so the meat was extra tasty.

I hope this doesn't sound dumb but for say a 5-6 pound bird how long would you cook in the crock pot. Also my DH loves stuffing done in the bird can you still do that if using the crockpot? Thanks I'm gonna have to make this for Sunday dinner next week it sounds so good! PS tstobb I'm hoping to get a rotisserie with my tax return and thanks for the positive review. My supervisor loves her and she also highly recommends it.

My chicken was 4-5 lbs and I put it in for 3 hrs on HI and 3 hrs on LOW and it was very well done, it fell off the bones. Maybe some veteran crockpot cookers can help on this one. I couldn't find instructions in my crockpot cookbook so I sort of played with it.

Thank you for the tip. I can't wait to try it. It sounds perfect for one of these cold New England days.
