I look at it this way.. The "longer" I stay here, the "less" time I have to wait to come back again!!!!! :yay::yay::yay:

C.Ann, I hope you find the shot pretty soon.

It's a good thing you love it up there in your cabin and I hope the weather stays nice for you.

I will be on the search for the H1N1 shot down here. It seems to be pretty elusive so far.

Keep an eye on the news and the net and you'll likely find the shot. Although, I will say that your age may work against you in that here, you wouldn't be eligible to get it yet. You had to be pregnant, between 2 and 24, between 25 and 29 with health conditions, or be caring for an infant younger than 6mos.

I was able to get mine last Monday. I thought for sure since you had to meet one of those criteria that they would require proof, but they didn't. I went an hour before they opened and was #28 in line. They ran out within like 4 hours. It was insanity while I was there.

Enjoy your time at the lake...I bet the weather will stay out of the teens for several more weeks.

The weather was absolutely beautiful last night. I put on a really warm coat and found I didn't need one that heavy after all. The leaves around the lake should be really beautiful right now.

I was going to head up to the Catskills last week when the weather was up near 70, then had to change plans. I was bummed. :(

NY had to change the mandatory ruling for H1N1 flu shots last week as there wasn't enough of a supply to make it mandatory.

Hope you continue to have a safe, warm & healthy time at the lake. :woohoo:

Yes - I'm hoping to find it soon too, but I'm not holding my breath..:headache:

The one good thing about staying here is that everyone else is gone (the seasonal folks), so I pretty much don't have any contact with anyone who might be on the brink of getting sick..

I did run out to the General Store today - just to get milk - and the only person who was there was the owner.. (However, I did wave a friendly "hello" to 4 absolutely gorgeous deer I saw crossing the road on my way back.. LOL..)

When I got back here I made sure I washed my hands thoroughly though because I have a very, very bad habit of rubbing my eyes throughout the day when they feel tired.. A big NO-NO..

Yep, keep those hands out of your eyes.:thumbsup2 The worst part for me is when I'm sleeping. I find myself waking up rubbing my eyes.

As long as you scrupulously wash your hands before you get into bed, you should be fine -- unless you sleepwalk and touch things in the middle of the night. :scared1:

Also, wash your hands as soon as you get home. This way, you aren't touching things in your house and contaminating them.

Aaah... but you might have deer flu. It usually involves a desire towards sitting outside with binoculars or a camera :rolleyes1

C. Ann, I feel like I "know" you from your many posts, so I hope you understand that I say this with my heart when I say STAY THERE as long as you possibly can! My DGM99 survived the 1918 flu epidemic largely because of living in an isolated area, and that's still good advice, from all I've read. If the weather were to get colder, could you shut off rooms, use space heaters, use heat wrap on the pipes, or ??? to buy yourself a little more time? It seems as though you're good at keeping yourself occupied, so as long as you have food/water/meds, I vote you stay!

Good luck...
Terri

I do but I am still so aware of how germs are transmitted.

My biggest problem at night is the number of times I have to get up to tinkle...I average about 10x per night. Of course I wash my hands after but I have to be honest I do not stand at the sink and let the hot water get truly hot before I wash and go, I'm just too tired.

Not sure how old you are ;) But some older people should be immune to the H1N1 as it has been in the US before and older people have an immunity to it if they were exposed previously. Our medical director, a Dr, is not getting the mist nor the shot as he is older. That is the reason they set up the age brackets...not because the government doesn't care about its older generation.

As for washing your hands, its more important that you wash them for at least 18-20 seconds than that the water be very hot. Count out seconds or sing a verse of a song that is 20 seconds long while washing.

CajunDixie, I am I guess middle age (54) but I have a immune defiency problem so the doctors did recommend that I get a shot.

I had to  because I think my DH would lock me up if he heard me singing a tune in the middle of the night while in the bathroom washing my hands. ;) I will give it a whirl tonight so thanks for the tip.:thumbsup2

Hey, how about them Saints?:lovestruc

I dont remember what part of the country you said you were in...for some reason I thought you were in PA???
If you are, I will keep an eye out for where they are giving the shot. My kids got their first dose at the pediatricians office last week.

It actually isn't heat that does the trick. It is using soap and rubbing your hands under water so that the germs are dislodged off your hands by the water.

Make sure your faucet handles and light switch are disiinfected. Those would be the last things you touch before climbing back into bed. Since you do get up in the night, you might want to invest in a pump bottle of hand sanitizer. Get a little squirt of that after you turn off the faucet & lights, so that is the last thing on your hands. :)

Thanks Imzadi, You have been very informative and very nice about it too.

I have disinfected the handles and light swithes throughout my house including door knobs and cabinet pulls. I have hand sanitizer in every bathroom and in the kitchen but I have always wondered if it worked as well as washing by hand. I am also limited to using HS to only 4x a day per doctors orders.

C. Ann, please keep us posted as you continue searching.

I heard today that our local Urgi-Care in Gulfport had it but alas I was too late. My search continues tomorrow so please wish me luck.
