I really do feel like we are own little community here and I've come to count you as my friends. Because of that I thought it best to let you know that I'll be absent from the boards for a couple of days. I am still very much interested in the kids exchange and willing to organize it if nobody objects so please don't start it without me.

Having said that, I suffered a loss last night that fellow pet owners will understand. My much loved and spoiled greyhound had a freak accident in our backyard last night and despite our best efforts and that of the emergency room doctor she died in my husband's arms last night.

Italy was so much more than a "dog" to me. She was another child to me and my best friend. I just need a couple of days to pull myself together. So, I'll be doing that and I'll check back in on Monday to see where we are with the kids exchange.

Thanks for understanding,
Michelle

I am so sorry for your loss...:( I have tears in my eyes just from reading your post..

Sorry to hear about your loss:( They aren't just dogs, they are one of the family. It must be such a traumatic event, especially when it was a sudden freak accident. Take care and {{{hugs}}}

Oh Belle!! :( I completely understand!! We lost our beloved Golden Retriever a few years back and it was just heartbreaking!! Amber was so much more than a pet to us, she was a child and it was just like losing a member of our family!! You take all the time you need, Belle, we will all be here for you if you need anything!!!

Hugs!!!

Michelle, {{{HUGS}}} I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. As a fellow dog lover, I can only imagine what sadness you are feeling now. Take care and come back when you're ready. I'm truly sorry for your family's loss.

:(

A huge {{{hug}}}, Michelle. Pets ARE a huge part of a family, and losing them is like losing a family member. Take all the time you need.

take time to grieve. Yes, they are very much" one of the kids" and very much part of the family. I am giving my dog an extra hug today..................Here is a poem I keep in my file(this makes me cry)
THE RAINBOW BRIDGE

There is a bridge connecting Heaven and Earth. It is called the Rainbow Bridge because of its many colours. Just this side of the Rainbow Bridge, there is a land of meadows, hills, and valleys with lush green grass.
When a beloved pet dies, the pet goes to this place. There is always food and water and warm spring weather. The old and frail animals are young again. Those who are maimed are made whole again. They play all day with each other.
There is only one thing missing: They are not with their special person who loved them on Earth. So, each day they run and play until the day comes when one suddenly looks up! The nose twitches. The ears are up. The eyes are staring. And this one suddenly runs from the group.
You have been seen, and when you and your special friend meet, you take him or her in your arms and embrace. Your face is kissed again and again and again, and you look once more into the eyes of your trusting pet.
Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together, never again to be separated.
:( )

My thoughts and prayers are with you Michelle. Take all the time you need. Pets are part of the family and losing them hurts just as hard as losing a human family member.
We're here if you need us.

Karen,
That poem brought tears to my eyes, too.

I am so sorry to hear about your loss. I lost my beloved Cocker Spaniel 6 years ago and I still miss him and think about him every day. I had had him since I was a kid so I had grown up with him. I was devastated. He was my baby. Rainbow Bridge is a beautiful poem. A friend bought me the book "The Fall of Freddie the Leaf" to help me deal with the loss of my dog. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

When I lost my dog in 99' the poem helped me get through the grieving. It is so beautiful.
