Il Mulino doesn't seem terribly good!

We have ressies here in August and I was really looking forward to it. We were always big fans of Palio, but recent reviews of Il Mulino don't seem like it's worth the cost.

Any recent diners wish to share their experiences, please?

Thanks.

Anyone care to chime in? I'm sure that some of you have visited this restaurant....

I'm curious too but haven't seen many reviews. It does seem pricey and I want to be sure it's worth it before we try it.

Camcolt had a review a bit back as I recall. And I think Uncleromulus was going to try it so maybe he'll have a review of it up soon.

So consider this a bounce!:jumping2:

I think Uncleromulus had to miss his ressie cause he was "under the weather". I. too, was looking forward to his review. CamColt's review wasn't what I would call "positive". That's why I'm looking for anyone else who has dined here.

Thanks.

Oh, no...I didn't know that about Uncleromulus...what a shame.

I agree that Camcolts' left me thinking...not so much.:confused3

When's your trip? Maybe you can be the next to write a review.;)

You are correct Uncleromulus missed his meal at Il Mulino due to a visit to the hospital. :( I was looking forward to his review very much as I know many of you were.

I do want to chime in to say that while our meal here wasn't amazing it wasn't really bad either. We have dined at some of the other "nicer" restaurants like YSH, Shulas, and California Grill and left there not thinking twice about the price we paid. It was well worth it at all of those. Here we just weren't WOWed and sort of felt we expected to be WOWed for the price. Again, it wasn't a totally horrible meal, but we just expected more. I would go back again to give it another chance, but I'm not making it a point to rush back there on our next trip, like I had thought I might.

On a scale of 1-10 Id give it a 7 and DH said he would give it a 6.

Don't know if I'll be the next to try it but I have ressies there for May 30th. It's my birthday and we thought it would be festive to try a new place. We're frequent visitor's to WDW and a new restaurant is an event for us. I promise to give my opinion on return (home on 6/1).

Thanks to all for the replies...I'll be looking forward to your review GatorKate...

So far, the menu and the prices have scared me off:

SPAGHETTI CARBONARA - Spaghetti with Pancetta, Cheese and Egg $22
GNOCCHI BOLOGNESE - Potato Dumplings with Meat Sauce $24
LINGUINE ALLE VONGOLE - Linguine with Red or White Clam Sauce $26
PENNE RIGATE - Penne served with our Original Il Mulino Marinara Sauce Topped with Ricotta Cheese $20

I know that Disney restaurants can be higher than normal, but $20.00+ for pasta is a little too high for me.

Disneytrip...would love to read your reviews, but the search function never works...can you post links?

I just made ressie's for Christmas... considering canceling them for something I know we will love. DH loved Palio's.

Any review updates?

Did you hear Kevin's review of Il Mulino on the podcast a few weeks ago? If not you might want to check that out. With that said, I always think people should try what they might like. Since everyones experience vaires and tastes are so differnet, you just never know.

I haven't checked out the review yet. Typically, I agree with you in regards to trying a restaurant for yourself. However, at Disney I go with majority since there are so many wonderful restaurants that I feel if one doesn't measure up we missed out.

I can't say that we have had bad restaurant experiences. The only time I was disappointed was when Spoodles removed the paella from their menu; otherwise, every meal has been wonderful.. and we've had many.
I take that back, the CS at San Angel was not very good when we ate there.

I swapped the CR for Flying Fish. That has always been wonderful and is DH favorite.

I was looking forward to my own review as well:) I had to settle for a Goods to Go hotdog that particular evening...
But maybe we can get there in December, although we go down with another couple then and restaurants are a "group" decision.
Must say that collectively, the few reviews I've seen don't seem inspiring. Much was expected of Il MUlino, especially since it replaced a pretty good restaurant. So far it doesn't seem to have delivered.

After listening to Kevin's review we decided to cancel our ADR for October. I usually would not do so based on one review, but after listening to how bad the service and food were for his party we decided not to risk that much money and time. I can imagine how stupid I would feel if we had the same experience after being "warned".

Just so you have the other side, Webray gave Il Mulino a wonderful review a month or so ago. Search the Dining Reviews secton under the restaurant name. (Sorry, I don't know how to link it.)

I had dined there before Kevins review and I found many similarities between their experience and ours. ;)

I think the original one in NYC is the best. That place is outstanding - all the time. But, expense account only in terms of budget.

I have eaten at the Las Vegas outpost of Il Mulino, and while the food was just good - the price was still astronomical. We had shrimp orgenata, which was standard. I has a gnocchi dish with a pancetta cream sauce which was very, very good (but heavy).

I think that as it expands, people expect it to be the same as the original and I'm just not seeing it live up to that yet.

I just tried to find my old post but the search did not work for me as well. We have stayed at the Swan the past three years and loved Palio too. This past Feb. we stayed at the Swan and ate at Il Mulino twice. The first time we felt like we had been ripped off b/c of the prices. However we went one more time b/c we love Italian and my husband and I found that if we did not order drinks or appetizers (pricey) and simply ordered an entree (they are filling and delicious, plus you get a bread sampler that is tasty) we had a better experience. The ambiance is romantic. My husband had the Tortellini all panna (2nd time) and gnocchi (1st time), both excellent, and my favorite dish was the Bucattini with pancentta. I say go in without getting tempted to order more than an entree and enjoy the atmosphere and tasty dishes. Perhaps share a glass of wine ;) enjoy!
