ikea couch...yay or nay?

I have 6 Ikea sofas in my home. One is an Ektorp in brown leather that we bought from the as-is section. It is probably 7-8 years old now and still looks good after heavy use though the leather on the bottom front looks a little saggy. It's very comfortable and was WELL worth the money. I also have two discontinued white leather sofas (bought on clearance) that are probably 4 years old and don't get much use. They're very comfortable and still look good. And I just bought two new Karlstad white leather sofas for my living room. I like the style and the durability. They look great. And you can't beat the price for real leather.

The only sofa I don't like was a cheap fabric sofabed sofa we purchased. I hated it from the moment we put it together. It's hard, uncomfortable and practically useless.

I thought I wanted IKEA furniture until I went to the store and actually sat in them. I felt like a giant because they all seemed so short, especially the backs. Did I just try the wrong ones?

We've had an IKEA sofa in our basement for about 7 years - it's just like new and I wouldn't hesitate to get one again.

Just bought a 1 month old Karlstad off craiglist that is pristine and I cannot tell you how much more comfy it is than my Ektorp-which has been been great for kids tv room.

I have some bookcases and my son's dresser that I put together myself and they have lasted through about 4 yrs so far and 4 house moves.

Do you live near a Calico Corners? You might want to check them out, too... I work there, and recently purchased a sectional from their Classic Home collection, which is a smaller scale (and less expensive) than their custom furniture collection. What's nice is that you pick the arm style, leg style, and cushion style, so that it's still pretty "custom". The quality is much better than some of the other furniture companies. And you can choose the fabric to match your style & budget! (I did a faux suede.)

We bought the Ektorp set (sofa and loveseat) for our family room. It's gotten a LOT of use and held up very well. :thumbsup2

The only one that seemed smallish to me was the klippan. That had a shorter back but wasn't uncomfortable. It starts at $250. I found the ektorp, karlstad and kivik to be very roomy and comfortable to sit in.

i didnt go thru all the responces but i seen your in nj have you checked out the dump... i dont know if you have any over in jersey but we have one over here in pa easy to get to by either 95 or rt1 its on business rt 1 by oxford valley mall..... they are open fri sat and sun only. i seen good prices in there and also i really like diamond furniture on street rd in bensalem(right off of 95) we got a wrap around sectional(4 reciliners) for half of the price that mealys or raymore wanted hth and look around

There is a Dump in Turnersville (Rt. 42). I bought a leather Natuzzi sofa there last year. We have also bought smaller things there.

As for Ikea, I'm sitting on an Ikea chair that we have had at least 18 years. It has survived 5 moves, numerous kids, animals and is still fine. You would not know this chair is that old.

We had an Ikea sofa. We didn't love it but it was used well enough for the time we had it. It was perfect for a few moves and with small kids and bigger dogs. For what you need it will be fine.
