II Trade

We are thinking of a family trip in 2007 somewhere in the USA. We really don't have an area in mine but will probably use FF miles. Has anyone traded to a location that really stands out. It can be anywhere in the USA. There will be 8 of us so we need a place that sleeps 8. There are so many places listed as trades that it is hard to decide. And of course you really never know if they are as nice as pictured and meet DVC expectations. We really want to trade to a great location with great accomodations. Anyone have a great idea? We traded in to Kona Coast Resort in Kona, Hawaii a couple years ago.

What time of year are you going? We've stayed in Marriott's at both Newport Coast, CA and Williamsburg, VA that were quite nice, and up to DVC standards. We've also been in two of the MVC HI properties, but those are a tough trade, even for an MVC owner.

A few thoughts. First, you cannot trade DVC for 8, only for 6 for a 2 BR. A 3 BR trade would allow you to trade for 8. However, there are many places that would accommodate 8 so if you made the right choices you should be OK trading for "6" but then having 8. You just need to research it ahead of time. As for somewhere in the US sometime in 07; that's a broad item. I'd suggest you join the Timeshare Users Group and look through the reviews. I'm not about to go through all the possibilities that come to mind but if you'll narrow it down a bit to type of experience (beach, mountains, activities) and time of year; I'll try to offer some suggestions.

The other problem is that you plan to use FF miles. It's uncommon to have good exchanges in pocket at the 330 day mark that most airlines use for FF miles reservations. Plus if you're looking at 8 people with FF miles, that is likely a far larger expense than the room would be. You should really get down to planning now and make some major decisions. For about 3-4 months of 2007, you're already behind as most exchanges should be requested a full year or more out, 2 years in some cases.

We like all types of places-beach, mountains, etc. I am a member of TUG and use it frequently. I just wanted to know where members had stayed and what they thought stood out in their mine. We have stayed at the Williamsburgs Marriott and the Newport Marriott. Marriotts have always accomodated the 8 of us. We like Marriotts very much and can say they have always been up to DVC standards. We do like acitivity and sightseeing. We aren't the relax vacation types. We love VB but only for a few days. Just too quiet and far from things. Hope this helps with what we like. Also, it will probably be in May or Sept. Or if we go to a colder area, it can be in the summer. Also, we live in different cities, so FF miles should work for us. We just make reservations for all of us.

The list is too exhaustive to go over completely. A few highlights for the US would include Ski areas (esp CO) for summer, almost any beach place for May or Sept (inc Key West), Branson, Gatlinburg, Sedona or CA desert (early May), New England, Gatlinburg (late Sept esp), and so on. IF it were I, I'd look at something like Cancun, Aruba, or Puerto Vallarta. And don't forge NO now. Do be sure to explore which resorts will allow 8 even though the exchange will be for 6. There are a few over the years that have been reported as holding you to the exchange number regardless though it was mostly RCI resorts and out of the US. Not all 2 BR units will accommodate 8.
