Please dont hate me. I am not a dvc owner. We traded into dvc through interval international for a 1 bedroom unit in May. We would like a 2 bedroom though. Is there any way we can upgrade? I dont mind paying the extra, or buying points from someone to make up the difference. Do any of you know if this is possible? We have 5 in our family and I think the 1 bedroom might not be big enough for us for a full week. Anyone have a phone number we could call to talk to the DVC people? Should I just call the sales phone number? Thank you for any input you have.

For those of you upset with 'renters' using the DVC perks, dont worry we are not going to pool hop, we wont have a car, I dont think we'll use any of the perks other than the room.

Do you know if its possible to 'add' points to an existing reservation to upgrade to a larger unit? I traded into DVC with Interval Intl for a 1 bedroom unit for a week in may. I would like the same week, but in a 2 bedroom.

As far as I know, you cannot upgrade by buying points from someone. You can call and see if there are any other options - such as booking a studio for cash and getting the one adjacent/connected to your 1 bedroom unit (probably a long shot).

If there isn't a number to call on the info you received from II re the trade (should be one to call to pay the $95 fee which will get you to DVC Member Services), you can call DVC Member Services on their regular number which is 407-566-3800. Mondays are very busy so don't be surprised if you have to wait on hold for awhile. Since you aren't coming until May, you might want to wait until later in the afternoon or later in the week to avoid being on hold for so long.

No one hates you - obviously you've been reading some of the less than gracious posts. Please don't take them personally.

Best wishes -

which resort do you get?

If Okw you will be fine - if any of the others it will be a tight fit.

OKW is that much bigger than the others - especially the 1-bedroom.

of course that still means only one bathroom....

We got Beach Club Villas and I saw many posts about how small the units are and now I am worried.

The 1 bedroom units at the BCV are approx 1000 sq ft. IMHO, they are only small if you compare them to OKW, which has larger units than the other WDW DVC resorts. In the end, I suppose it is what you are used to having on vacation. IMHO, the difference is not something to worry /stress over.

If one of your 5 is an infant (2 or under) and can sleep in a portable crib (Pac 'n Play), you should be just fine. If not, then you may have to bring along an aero bed (or something similar). The1 bedroom will have a king bed in the bedroom and a queen sleep sofa in the living room. DVC does not have cots or rollawys, so if the existing bedding won't work, you'll have to provide your own. Some owners who have teens of the opposite sex bring along an aero bed.

Oh dear, only 2 beds? We have 3 teenagers. 2 boys and 1 girl. I think the floor will be filled with Aerobeds! How much floor space is there?

CarolMN The 1 bedroom units at the BCV are approx 1000 sq ft. IMHO, they are only small if you compare them to OKW, which has larger units than the other WDW DVC resorts.

BCV, BWV, VWL and SSR 1 BRs are about 750 sq. ft. each, OKW is about 1000 sq. ft.

You will have 1 King bed and a queen sleeper sofa. Not really 2 'beds'. Also only towels for 4, bedding for 4...

I stand corrected - thanks Bill. I still think the OP can make it work. Boys in the queen sleeper and the girl on the aero bed. Juddging from my stays at the BWV (which are comparabvle to the BCV), there is room for 2 twin aero beds if necessary.

That said, you really should try to get a 2 bedroom or add a studio - you will be much more comfortable and will appreciate the extra bathroom with 3 teens. Hopefully, at least 2 of your teens are old enough to stay in a studio by themselves if you can't arrange for one next to your 1 bedroom.

Best wishes -

If your 2 boys can use the queen hide'a bed, you will only need an aero bed for your daughter.

What size unit did you trade? Because this is an II trade, the availability of a 2 bedroom in the exchange system will be the issue. If there is not a 2 bedroom unit in the exchange inventory, then you would for sure be out of luck. There would be little chance of combining II trade inventory with member inventory, since member inventory is more than likely sold out at this point. BCV is a small DVC resort, and very popular because of it's location near Epcot. At this point, your only chance is to call II and see what your options are.

Thanks you guys for the advice.

I traded a 2 bedroom unit to get this one. I just called Interval and they are going to let me do an additional 'trade' if a larger unit comes available. They did have a studio available at BCV the same week as us, but we dont have another week to trade for it :( I called DVC to try to reserve it but since I am not a member I cant do it that way.

I will keep trying - worst case scenario (which is still pretty awesome), we'll keep the 1 bedroom and become a very close family! My boys will no way be able to sleep together in one bed btw - they are 14 and 15 and at each other 23 hours a day! My daughter is 17 and I am sure she wouldnt want to sleep with either one of them! So it'll be 2 aerobeds for us.

No, you won't be able to add points for an upgrade. You could try to rent a studio on the Rent/Trade Board and see at arrival if they could link the two to make a 2BR.

You could also call CRO and try to rent a studio with a cash reservation. MS cannot make cash reservations for non-members, but the regular Disney reservation system can usually help.

Good luck! :)

I think the maximum room occupation for a 1 bedroom is 4 people (unless you have a really young one). If that is the case, I'd be worried about being able to get more then 4 ID cards for that room. The ID Cards would serve as the ticketing card normally, so you might have to buy your tickets separately. Others with more experience in this can chime in.

Please don't turn this into a occupancy debate, just the facts.

Thanks!

Boy You got lucky. We are DVC members but also have two other timeshares. We have had some great trades through II but never Disney. We have traded a two bedroom unit for a three bedroom in Ireland. So sometimes the bigger units do come through with II.
Congratulations on your great Disney trade.

MS has been allowing 5 in a one bedroom, even if one isn't an infant. They are very careful to tell you that no extra bedding is provided, though. FWIW, I don't think the OP will have trouble getting a KTTW card for everyone in her party of 5.

Best wishes-

I agree, she wont have trouble getting a KTTW for everyone, but there will be towel and bedding issues.

I hope the OP comes back to tell us how this came out.

Hi Everyone

I am here to give an update on what has transpired today. I still have been unable to get a larger unit. Interval Intl is letting me try for another 'trade', if we are successful we'll have to pay another $95 trade fee. If we dont get a larger trade, then we'll keep our room. I called and spoke to at least 3 different DVC people re: the size of our party & what options we have. They all assured me that we would be fine in the 1 bedroom, but that we'd have to bring our own extra bedding. I asked how many aero beds we could bring and they said 'as many as you want' as long as there are no more than 5 in the room. They said that max. occupancy they will allow is 5 & that is what we have. I asked them about getting a studio and getting an adjoining one to make it a 2 bedroom and they said that we could do that by going through regular reservations. So I called them, $300+ per night for the studio - no thanks!

So we are going to stick with our 1 bedroom and hope for a 2 bedroom to come available in the Interval Intl system & we'll pay our additional trade fee and that'll be that. If we dont get the 2 bedroom, we'll be more than happy with the 1 bedroom (just a little squished). No one mentioned anything about us not being able to get the tickets, hope that doesn't become and issue later.

I want to thank everyone immensely for all your help & suggestions. You guys are great. :cheer2:

Personally I think you'll be very crowded in the 1 bedrooms. We had two teenage girls with us in a one bedroom boardwalk, and were very cramped. I'd try to get another unit with cash. Good luck!

Thanks for the update! Good luck at the 2 bedroom coming through, and if you are REALLY lucky, you'll get it at OKW which will give you even more room! :thumbsup2

I agree about being crowded in the 1BD BUT if you really only use it to sleep and eat you should be fine. With the foldout bed/couch in the living room there is really no room to walk about. The master BD is fairly large though. I think an Aero bed would fit well in the entry way too to give the DD privacy from the DS's. We stayed in a 1BD with our two kids ages 5 & 8 and found it a bit tight but we tried to use the room for an afternoon break and spent more time than just sleeping. Good luck
