We would like to trade some of our points for a resort in Puerto Rico next May. How do I know if there is any vacancy there?

My understanding (which is very limited onthe whole II front :teeth: ) is that I have to put my points into II to see if that resort has any avaiablity. There is only one Puerto Rico resrt we could find listed with II. We are helld captive by the date as we are going down for a wedding. :bride:

If I can't get the resort on the date that I need I don't want to transfere the point into II but will use them in Disney.

Please, II savy DISers out there, help!

What you should do is decide what resorts and unit sizes you will accept. Call MS exchange department and tell them. If it's there, you can say yes and you're set. If not, they can do a search first (Main and best way for DVC members) and they will call you if anything comes up that matches. You then get the chance to say yes or no. The only choice for DVC is the Hyatt. It's the only resort in the area now or will be. The Cerromar (attached hotel) has closed some time ago and is being converted to timeshares I believe. The Hyatt Dorado is closed or is in the process. I would be very hesitant about an exchange there as it's II's policy that one you accept an exchange, they are out of the loop. If the resort were to close prior to your arrival, technically neither II nor DVC would have any legal obligations in any way. If you want to go to PR, look at other options.

The Hyatt Dorado hotel is scheduled to close on May 31. The Hacienda del Mar (Hyatt Vacation club) is open. The adjoining Hyatt Cerromar hotel was closed some time ago and is being converted to additional timeshare units. To my knowledge, all pools, restaurants, and the casino are open. Also, the golf course is to remain open, and the restaurants at the Dorado and golf club house are to remain open. (Don't know what they are doing with the hotel units though.)
Normally with Hyatt, units are more likely to open up for exchange starting about 6 months out.
Note that this property is not in San Juan proper, but somewhat outside San Juan. It's not a great distance though. And it is a very nice property.
