Has anyone ever done an exchange for Marriott's Custom House in Boston? I was just looking thru the DVC guidebook and ran across this resort and then looked it up on the II website. It really looks neat. We've only been to Boston once before but loved the city and I thought it would be neat to spend an entire week there. Is this an easy exchange to get? If I wanted to do it for the Summer of 2005, when should I put in my request?

Thanks.

Can't help on the exchange but the Custom House is very nice. Walking distance to all of Boston. By 2005, the above ground demo of the expressway (big dig) should be complete which is a consideration. Can't beat Boston April - October!

And one thing you will want to know about Boston: try not to drive anywhere. At the Custom House you will be able to walk nearly everywhere, or take a short cab ride. Better yet, get a one week pass on the MBTA, the local transit system (know locally as "the T"); all of us locals ride it, and it's relatively cheap, safe and efficient. The T is definately the best way to get to Fenway Park, the Museum of Fine Arts, Harvard Square (Hvd Univ., shopping, dining and great Hvd museums), Museum of Science, many great public parks (known as "the emerald necklace", etc. But Boston really is the ultimate walking city, with lots of historic walking tours, great restaurants a very good aquarium all within easy walking distance form the Custom House.

The II exchange rates in the book looked very reasonable given the high quality of the facility and the incredible location. I hope you do it and have a great time in our fair city!

While on my lunch break one day a few years ago, I stopped into the Custom Tower before it was sold out, and told them I was a DVC member and wanted a tour in case I ever wanted to trade in someday. I really just wanted to see inside. I was shown a one bedroom unit and it is VERY VERY nice. Very upscale. But the rooms are also VERY VERY small (Richyams would certainly have something to say about them!!!). The building is part of the history of Boston and it would be such a unique experience staying in it. And you can't beat the neighborhood. I agree with the others, Boston is the ULTIMATE walking city. You can walk, or take the T, everywhere from there. Other places you can walk to... The "Cheers" Bar, Swan Boats, Beacon Hill, Newbury Street (the Rodeo Drive of Boston), The North End (little Italy), China Town, etc. And the commuter rail is also a short walk, or T ride. The commuter rail can take you to Salem, Providence, Newburyport, Gloucester, etc. Plus, about a block away you will be able to catch a boat to Provincetown (the very tip of Cape Cod) for a day trip.

There has been at least one offer of a direct exchange on the Rent trade board if I recall correctly.

oh please do yourself a favor and wait until 2005 to take that trip...hopefully by then they will have the central artery project complete, and you will see boston the way it should be.....when the open up the rose kennedy greenway it will make the city truly spectacular.....no more big green overpass running through town....you can walk from the custom house over to the waterfront and the north end

2005?!?!?! Are you all optimistic or what??? LOL!!

The Custom House looks nice and Boston is a great city!!

Hope it works out well for you!!
