....I have a question for Kimmar. What is (and what is the point of) an interactive notebook? My DD has never had to do this before but now in high school it's a requirement for her history class. Apparently they've been doing this for years in the public grammar schools but not in her Catholic school. I've seen the 2 page list of demands :rotfl: of the teacher in keeping their book and honestly think it's a waste of time. She spends more time stressing about which page she's on and if she skipped the appropriate amount of lines, etc. Anyway, was hoping an educator could clue me in. Thanks!

...I'm baffled, because I've never heard of an interactive notebook....PLUS, my DS is a junior in H. S. and he doesn't have to do this, and he has a couple of Honors classes....:confused3

I'm wondering what the Hoff thought of it after seeing it played back. And I loved when Carrie Ann said "you really think you're hot don't you?"

I think it's the first time I've been truly joyous about television since Seinfeld's final episode.

OK go back to ignoring me.

...the Hoff is gone - shocker.

I'm so glad the Hoff is gone, he skeeves me out :sick:

It was a tough one between Margaret Cho and "The Hoff". Blech! He is so nasty and really believes his own hype. Margaret next week for sure!

Kimmar, thankfully World History is the only class DD used the interactive notebook for. I personally find it ridiculous as it's telling them how exactly to take notes in a normal multi-subject notebook. It's supposed to help the kids keep better notes, but I think it just adds to the stress, i.e.,

You MUST have your name on the upper right hand corner (fine);
You MUST have the date immediately below your name (fine);
Your MUST use pages 1 and 2 of your notebook as a Table of Contents for the notebook, each line being numbered;
You MUST not write on the back of the pages (do the students want the teacher to go blind trying to read it?) -- yes that's what he said;
You MUST begin note taking on page 11 in your notebook; should you begin on any other page you will receive a failing grade;
Should you need more than one page to take notes during class you MUST NOT use the following page, rather you should write on pages from the back of the notebook, then rip them out and staple them to the first page of your notes...

You get the idea. Oh, and their notebooks are collected and graded based on how well they are following his rules. As I said, I find it completely ridiculous. Her notebook looks like crap already from all the staples, ripped out pages, etc. I'm sorry but if my kid has managed to get accepted to all four honors classes, I think she knows how to take notes and keep a hold of what she needs in order to study. Just saying. :snooty:

Oh, and just for the record, DD does not know my feelings about this. I tell her it's his rules and his class, he gets to set the tone and she needs to play nice in his class. LOL

I have nothing nice to say, so I'll stay quiet.

I hope you mean in regard to the teacher and not me? ;)

Actually I pared it down. He sent them home with 2 pages, single spaced of "requirements". My first thought -- BUTTHEAD! :lmao:

I very, very, very rarely will say anything negative about a teacher. I generally have a problem with the school system in general, but I think this is a bit over the top. I'd be pretty mad about it, too. Instead of helping, I think it's just going to cause problems.

And, PK, we all know you're parent of the year. :thumbsup2

I agree with your assessment. :thumbsup2

My little DS had 10 points taken off an in-class paper for not having his name on it. Now, I understand that in 5th grade they are trying to teach them responsibility and following instructions. My little guy is dyslexic, and one of the "by-products" if you will is disorganization. I just think 10 points is a little extreme. Since he struggles with school anyway, the last thing I need is 10 points off from any of his papers.

Held my tongue though and didn't email the teacher. Just told little guy to make sure he tries to remember to put his name on the page each time. :) He would have made 100 if he'd put his name on the paper.

Sorry -- I'm off the soap box now. You may ignore any or all of this post. :)

Poor kid. My oldest has ADHD, and is also incredibly disorganized. She had to miss out on part of recess in 3rd grade because she didn't have me sign a paper. It was about fire safety, her route for getting out of the house. She showed us and we went over it, but she didn't mention that I needed to sign it. I felt so bad for her because she did all she was supposed to do, but didn't have my signature.

Yesterday was Green Day and today is School Day.

I know nothing about either subject.

I'll just continue to stay in ignore mode.
