You may now have that cherished last word because I am going to drive on by. I apologize. I know how you hate it when anyone who disagrees with you does not stay to discuss the same issues over and over and over. Odd though, that those who drop in and agree with you are never considered drive bys

I can't even figure out who the original poster was due to all your split up quotes but:

To the person who doesn't think there were plenty of people
"struggling" in October of 2000. You are incredibly misinformed.
Millions of children without insurance, homeless shelters bulging
at the seams, housing bureaus fighting for anything the rich
would donate, average income per household actually going
down....that's the situation we in urban areas were dealing with
when W was laughing with glee about being surrounded and
supported by his "base." You obviously have no experience
in the area of poverty; get a clue. His comments were inexcusable and show his true colors. Even recent polls (I know,
you hate polls) report that most Americans consider him arrogant
and not particulary intelligent. Thats a really dangerous combination as we've seen in the last three years. The have
nots keep suffering as they are not his "base."

There are always people struggling, of course I agree that there were plenty struggling. I thought we were talking in relative terms. It was after Sept. 11 that so many got laid off or lost their jobs altogether, that so many were struggling.

Do you really think he was laughing with "glee" or that he even thought that he was surrounded by his "base"? By implication then, you'd have to say that Al Gore really believed he invented the internet. Social Security is a sensitive issue for the many who are struggling--do you think Al Gore was insensitive for joking about the criticisms lobbed at him over social security at this same dinner?

I wouldn't want to let wvrevy down...so I guess I'll get "semantic" here. That poll, that I posted, didn't ask the question the way you imply. It asked, independently, to use adjectives to describe President Bush and Senator Kerry. It indeed cited that more people used the adjective "arrogant" for President Bush that Senator Kerry as did they used the adjective "intelligent" for Senator Kerry more than President Bush. That doesn't translate to the statement above. BTW, they also used the adjective 'Decisive" more often for the President and "Honest" equally as often for both.

And to further meet wvrevy's expectations, on the "arrogant" answer (not the rest), I'd be surprised if most people really know what the word means. I think most people consider any show of self-assuredness to be "arrogant".

Yes according to the poll most Americans do find him arrogant. 52% to be exact. However 63% would describe him as intelligent. I'm just not entirely sure how you get "most Americans consider him .......not particularly intelligent" from that. Must be fuzzy math.
