If you won't stay in a studio, do you also not cruise?

I don't go to Disney World to hang out in my room. I am not a park commando but there is so much to see and do in Orlando, I truly am only in my room to sleep and change clothes.

For me, this is the answer to the OPs question. I think for several people, it comes down to how much money it costs to stay in a studio (pts + MFs) versus how much it costs to stay elsewhere. If one does not spend that much time in the room, then there are better values on-site. The size of the 1 & 2 BR villas are key for us but if we had extra points to burn, a side trip in a studio would be fine. We just did not join DVC in order to stay in studios. I am sure as we get older and travel as just a couple, we may have more studio stays, but I want the 1 BR. As far as cruises, I don't think it is an even comparisson because again, I don't consider the size of room the issue. Rather, it is the value of the room.

Here Here!!

Actually the DVC is a good value even if you only want to stay in studios. Just check out rack rates for next year. But the real purpose of this thread was to find out why people don't like staying in studios but don't mind cruising.

That is a bit unusual based on our years of experience. You must have a lot of youthful energy

It is definitely true that Disney World is a lot of work. :dance3:

I read these boards every day, even though I don't post every day, and a recurring theme is how one of the best things about the DVC is the staying in the one bedroom or larger villas. When questioned most people say that don't like staying in studios. We have cruised before and also have an RV. The cabins even on the Disney cruise ships are smaller than a studio and our RV is also smaller. It is only 31' by 8' which is actually average for an RV. So just out of curiosity, for those people who wouldn't stay in a studio, would you also not go on a cruise? Also is it due to the amount of time you spend in your room? I actually spend more time in my cabin when cruising than I do at WDW. Too much to see.

My apologies if I am reading this post wrong, but I thought you were wondering if we won't stay in a studio because of the size, would we also not go on a cruise. By comparing it to the RV, I took your cruise question to be based on room size. Again, my preference of room size at the resort would have no bearing on a decision to not take a cruise due to cabin size. Staying in a studio is a matter of its value versus other lodging options. Going on a cruise would matter on its value versus other cruise options, not WDW lodging options or room sizes. The two would be totally independent. The cruise would have to be of value, compared to other cruising options, for me to use my points on. SO, after hopefully better explaining my opinion, my vote would be that going on a cruise is still possible for us and has nothing to do with the fact we don't care to stay in a studio.

I cruise, often... I stay in studios when it is two of us. When we are a larger group, I get a larger room. I really don't stay in either room very long. I do prefer balcony rooms on a ship, but it really depends on the cost.

When we go to Disney we plan to stay in a 1BR. (If we're trying to conserve points, then we'll do a studio.)

If we're cruising we budget for a balcony suite. Sometimes that means we get a shorter cruise or cruise less often. If I could afford the Walt Disney Suite.... I'd upgrade.

It's all about finances for our family.

Our first DVC stay is in sept in a 1 bedroom, just the two of us, I know we will feel spoiled. I am sooo excited!

BUT the 5 night stay I just booked for January in a studio is only 40 points!!
For 40 points I think we can live without the jacuzzi!!

I had a Disney Cruise booked once. DH changed jobs and we had to cancel.:headache: On that cruise I had booked two of the category 10 rooms. I was bringing my mother in law. DH and I were going to stay in one room and MIL and the kids in another. I would rather pay for two small rooms for five people than one slightly bigger room for four.

When I added on at AKV, DH made me promise no more studios, ever. Now I try to plan 10 - 12 night with only one weekend.

nice name;)

We don't do studios, but we did do the Disney 4 night cruise once. It was nothing like staying in a studio. However, it was crowded. We almost did the 7 night earlier this year, but decided that we could go to WDW AND get a week at the beach for a lot less than 7 nights on the Magic. We bought enough points to stay in one or two bedrooms when we go. We like the king bed and the separate bedroom. To do that on the cruise would get us two or three weeks at Disney and two weeks at the beach. I'm not going to spend that for 7 nights.

I feel way more confined in a shipboard cabin than I do in a DVC studio. But necessity dictates that certain activities (cruising for one) will require staying in smaller accomodations. And when points run short but WDW calls, I'll happily stay in a studio as well.

I certainly prefer to have more space, but I don't let that one consideration determine whether or not I will book the trip. After all, I have way more space at home than in a DVC 1-BR or 2-BR so I pretty much expect a certain downgrade in accomodations from what I'm used to anyway.

I never thought about this...hmmm. If just DH and I are on vacation, we'll stay in a studio if necessary, but we usually have a 1 br, even if it's just us. If the kids are with us, a 2br is a must. DH and I went on a cruise one time, and vowed never again. We loved the shore excursions, but I felt "stuck" on the ship while it was sailing.
Maybe part of it was the small cabin, I just never really thought about it. Interesting question!

We book two bedrooms at DVC and our frist cruise was connecting cat 6's... this coming cruise a Cat 2 (two bedroom suite)

So I guess our DVC habits have carried over to our DCL habits.
