I don't go to Disney World to hang out in my room. I am not a park commando but there is so much to see and do in Orlando, I truly am only in my room to sleep and change clothes.
For me, this is the answer to the OPs question. I think for several people, it comes down to how much money it costs to stay in a studio (pts + MFs) versus how much it costs to stay elsewhere. If one does not spend that much time in the room, then there are better values on-site. The size of the 1 & 2 BR villas are key for us but if we had extra points to burn, a side trip in a studio would be fine. We just did not join DVC in order to stay in studios. I am sure as we get older and travel as just a couple, we may have more studio stays, but I want the 1 BR. As far as cruises, I don't think it is an even comparisson because again, I don't consider the size of room the issue. Rather, it is the value of the room.
