If you were to do it again

I suppose I would have looked harder for a BWV contract with a December UY, but when a fully loaded 270 point contract with 270 banked points contract came up for 64 a point and a August UY.... I had to jump! This was right before the big ROFR buy up, thank goodness.

So I guess I wish I had know that you can put a resale order in with Brokers, at least Jaki atimeshare, will take orders and will call you if something comes in that fits the bill... even before it hits their websites. The above contract was such a phone call.. :teeth:

Bought earlier. We had looked, but thought TimeShare!

Things we did by mistake, but are glad we did - wish we knew to do it:
1) Bought multiple contracts. We bought multiple smaller contracts rather than one big one. Multiple home resorts, multiple booking windows, etc.
2) Multiple contracts with same use year. With multiple contracts, it is just easier to have all the points on the same schedule.

This is exactly what we did and we are so happy we did. One thing if we could do it over again we would buy more more more more. LOL

We would have purchased sooner and would have purchased a resale, not direct from DVC. We caught on and went the resale way on our second contract.

With multiple contracts are you paying annual fees at each one? What if you buy more afterward at the same resort, how do those fees work?

Another vote for "would have bought sooner".
I also would have liked additional points but what I have is fine too.

What a great thread! I first visited OKW in the mid 90s on an exchange. Loved it , but didn't feel I could afford it (when did the resale market start? What about the DISBoards?? I just *know* you guys could have helped me ;)).

Definately some regret about not joining sooner -- thanks for the various insights (hmmmm, smaller contracts, differing resorts).

Annual fees are paid on a per point basis. Doesn't matter how many contracts you own, it's how many points you own, and where.

Things I'd have done differently:

1. Broken my initial contract into two smaller ones. Same rationale as Maistre G provided.
2. Stayed in studios first. Once we stayed in a 1BR, it was all over for studios for us!!

You won't find many people with "buyer's remorse" on these boards. And there really aren't that many options if you're buying from Disney....how many points do you want is pretty much it!

With multiple contracts you still pay the annual fees for that resort, for however many pts the contract is worth. If you have multiple contracts at one resort the dues are all combined on one dues bill or can be taken as one payment if you are paying monthly. I believe this works the same even with multiple contracts at different DVC resorts, but I am not sure. We own all DVC pts at one resort. But there are many others who own at numerous resorts on this board, so I am sure someone will jump in.

I would have taken this board with a grain fo salt on all the hot issues, none of them matter to my stays at BWV.

We bought through Disney and have two "used" market resale contractes. Disney was the only place to get BWV at first and "used" was the only place we could buy when we got them.

DVC has been very good for our mental health, give us a fun thing to look forward to and plan for and has created mini trip related hobies.

We have met some great folks on the boards and endured some boars all in all it has been great.

Here is another "wish we had bought sooner" comment. We actually bought Starwood (Vistana Villages) a couple of years ago, THEN discovered DVC. I wish we'd found DVC first!

We bought a resale at BWV this spring (150 points) and are already wanting more points. :teeth: We'd like points at OKW next. We stayed there a couple of days in May and LOVED it.

As you can see by our counter, our first trip to the Boardwalk is in October for the Food and Wine Fest. Can't wait! :hyper:

TNCarole is right..

Can anyone suggest how to sell the Vistana property without losing our shorts (or half our money), so we can buy more points?

Gotta have more points!

I loves me some OKW........

:smooth:

I'd have bought sooner and bought as many points as I could possibly have afforded at the time.

I wish I had known there was such a thing as a resale market. I'd have at least checked it out.

I also wish I'd known these boards existed. Didn't discover them until after I'd bought. I don't think I'd have done anything differently, but I know I could have gotten great answers to my million questions.

If I would have only known.......I would have bought sooner, pts prices are going up all the time. And I would have bought more points. We have original contract and 2 add-ons. DVC has brought our family so much happiness.....and how do you buy that!!
