This news story was also on our news tonight. They said this guy's bad day apparently started when he lost his hearing aid.
Poor guy. He was probably thinking, man, I lost my hearing aid. Man that really sucks. Then he's hit by the train and he's like, it can't get any worse than this. Then his ambulance is hit by a car on the way to the hospital. He must have like walked under a ladder, broke a mirror and had a black cat walk in front of him before he left his house this morning or something.
Here's a link to some video footage of the accident. It's nothing gorey. http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/topstory/2454560
A Metro train struck a pedestrian about 4 p.m. near Reliant Park, then the ambulance carrying the victim was struck by a car en route to Ben Taub Hospital.
The unidentified pedestrian was attempting to cross Fannin Street from the Reliant Park Station platform when he got hit by a southbound train entering the station, said Metro spokesman Ken Connaughton.
The man is the first pedestrian to be struck by a Metropolitan Transit Authority light rail train, though the trains have been involved in 25 collisions with vehicles since the Main Street line began full testing last fall. Passenger service started Jan. 1.
Connaughton said the victim suffered minor injuries after being grazed by the 49-ton train, with bruises to his left side, hand, and arm.
"He told officers he heard the train but thought it was coming from the other direction," Connaughton said.
As the ambulance headed to the hospital, a vehicle smashed into it in an intersection as a television news helicopter recorded from above. Damage appeared moderate; it's unknown whether anyone was injured in the second incident.
