If you stay in a DVC villa (rental), do you really have to wash your own towels?

We're planning to rent DVC points for a 4 night villa stay in June. I understand that there will be no housekeeping service, but can't we call and ask for fresh towels every day and paper products, or does NO HOUSEKEEPING really mean nothing? I was told we could use the towels by the pool and wash our own. What about toilet paper and tissue?

Mousekeeping usually come one time during your stay to clean the room and give you fresh towels. Otherwise, yes, you will need to do laundry.

If you run out of paper goods, call to have them replenished.

Yes, it's true that you won't receive more towels, with the exception of DVC's limited housekeeping service. You'll receive Trash and Towel day on the 4th day of your stay. You will receive fresh towels during this day, and they will empty your trash and replenish any supplies (shampoo, soap, etc). If you want more towels, they cost $6 per pack, which supplies you with a set of 4. If you want Trash and Towel service daily, that cost's $10 per trip and full housekeeping is $25 for a studio, $30 for a one bedroom, $40 for a 2 bedroom and $60 for a Grand Villa, per day. I've never had a problem running out of any paper supplies during the time between cleanings, but if you do, they'll deliver more of them, free of charge.

You get trash and towel service on the 4th day. It is as the above poster described. You can request more service, but there is a fee. Frankly, we like it like that as you can nap in the afternoon without worrying about the mousekeepers wanting to come in.

They will gladly provided you will all the paper products you need. Don't worry about that. Just pick up your phone and call housekeeping. You are at a Disney hotel, after all.:)

You can get extra towels for a small fee. I think it is around $5 a set. We just hang ours up and use them over. Not a big deal.

You have been given the correct information above. Bear in mind, you are renting a timeshare, and as such, daily maid service is not included.

We used the laundry in our 1BR to wash towels and a bunch of clothes (overpacked...it was in the mid 90s with 90% humidity...need I say more?). It was quick and easy! We would run a load in the afternoon and dry it in the evening.

There were extra paper supplies in our villa...but we never ran out.

You also aren't supposed to take towels from the pool. I know people do, but you aren't supposed to.

In a one or two bedroom unit, you will have a washer right in the room. Tossing in towels isn't a big deal. Bring your own detergent though.

i know this may sound a little weird, but i like the washer and dryer being in the room... yes i don't mind doing laundry on vacation. it's really nothing for me to throw in a load of towels and then throw them in the dryer when you're out-and-about. i bring (pack) less for everyone and that's a plus for me. chicago '99 mara

p.s. sugg.- bring/buy (or ask for) paper or plastic cups (hot/cold)... i really wish this would be stocked as a standard room thing! (really like the "fiesta ware" (sp???) at bwvr, too!)

As jel0511 pointed out, you can arrange for additional housekeeping services, for a fee, at check-in. Chances are you've already saved hundreds of dollars by renting points instead of paying Disney prices for the room. If you want additional housekeeping services, just channel some of those savings towards daily room cleanings. Problem solved! :)

Thanks for all the detailed information about mousekeeping in the villas. We own a timeshare in Hawaii and we get clean towels everyday, so I just thought I'd ask so that we can be prepared. We don't mind doing our own laundry and I'll have to remember to buy detergent on our way from the airport to the resort. And yes, we also like not being interrupted during nap time, and being able to leave things out. Thanks again!

If you don't mind my asking, which timeshare is that? We have never gotten towels daily at any timeshare. That would be a nice perk near the beach though! On one Hawaii timeshare stay, we had double sets of towels though. Colored ones for the beach and white ones for the bathroom.

The timeshare is the Westin Ka'anapali Ocean Resort Villas on Maui. Just opened last September. I haven't stayed there as an owner yet (we rented last year) but another owner there told me that they had their fresh towels daily.

Thanks, that's good to know. We are planning on going back to Maui our next Hawaii trip.

You know, for some reason, the DVC-style vacation lends itself to a bit more of a relaxed pace. Maybe it's because I know I'll be back, but I don't feel the need to "commando tour" and I don't mind relaxing with a drink and some snacks in the afternoon, throwing in a load of wash, going down to the pool for a while or whatever.

We usually do a grocery stop at some opoint during the first day(once we can actually get into our room). I pick up snacks, drinks, laundry soap and whatnot. Even grocery shopping is fun on vacation!

You can request that your Trash & Towel day be switched, so you'll get fresh towels on any day you choose. We, also, hang out towels up, but pack very little (at least that's our PLAN) and expect to do laundry several times, if in a 1 BR.

I pack a few detergent tablets and dryer sheets, so don't have to worry about buying any big packages at the store. The water at Disney seems to be soft and doesn't need much detergent. I just use one tablet.

Please note that, at least at OKW and SSR, there is usually a housekeeping person on a scooter or golf cart who is out at the buildings making sure that each villa has the appropriate amount of towels (e.g. if a 2BR only has four occupants, he'll remove 4 sets of towels). You might be able to negotiate something with this fellow; under the table, as it were....

;) :p ;) :p

This has been a Rich Hyams Memorial Post

We were thinking about buying, but to me, its kind of a joke. No passes or dining plan, no mousekeeping-doing laundry and cooking-where's the vacation? plus you dont ever own it. I'm gonna pass. thanks for all the input.

Not all DVC owners cook on vacation (I don't) and we can purchase the dining plans for stays. But you are right, tickets are on your own--though you do get a discount currently on the AP--and don't get daily mousekeeping. I have yet to miss it.

DVC is not for everyone and I am glad you were able to get the information you need to know its not a fit for your family. It is a big expense and there is nothing worse then buying something only to find out later it wasn't what you thought.

Since this thread is almost 7 years old, I am closing it as it is outdated now. Thank you.
