If you rebooked on ship and didn't use DreamsUnlimited, now may be the time to switch

I just went thru this process.

I booked a cruise for 2005 while on board.

I got the 10% off, and $200 stateroom credit.

I had Beth transfer the booking to them and in ADDITION to the discount and stateroom credit, they are giving me a $200 rebate.

The bottom line is that I come out with the 10% discount and $400 in rebates/credits.

DU is also handling my request for some other bookings at WDW and checking to see if there is a ldwer price that comes available.

I only wish I used them on my first cruise. I used Expedia. Last time I ever book a cruise with them!

Thanks DU.

Now for the payoff, Dreams Unlimited has an offer to give you a rebate(not a statroom credit). A money back offer to put it better, if you switch your ressie that you currently have with either DCL or the TA you asked them to assign it to. In order for you to get the same deal from your current TA, they'd have to match Dreams offer of a rebate. I rebooked 2 rooms while on board and when I switch I'll qualify for a total of 225.00 in rebates. [/B]

Let me see if I understand this. You booked originally with DCL (while on board). Then transferred to All Seasons, and then transferred to DU??

When I originally booked my cruise last year with a TA, DU told me they wouldn't do a transfer of a reservation from another TA, that could only be done if I booked with DCL.

This thread has me compelely baffled.

NYDisneyMom- No you can't. AS I have found out since this topic was started DU will not accept your ressie from another TA, that said they will accept your ressie if it is with DCL. How it gets to, or in my case, gets back to DCL has nothing to do with DU. If my ressie does make it back to DCL, I then can transfer to DU and become eligible for an additional rebate. Sorry for the confusion and hope its been straightened out now.

Thanks! I think after reading all the posts I figued it out! Have a great cruise!!

Can I ask one more question? What is the current rebate from DU?

We are sailing on a 3-night cruise in 3 weeks (ressies are on hold by DC but not paid for yet.)

Thanks!

Sherri :)

Hi Mark and Sandra we sailed with you on 1/17 and I can't believe what I am reading. I guess I will be looking into transfering my ressi to DU. I wonder how that would affect any chance for room upgrades and would I still be able to view my ressi on the DCL website. Thanks for any info.princess:

Hi Mickeymom,
I do know that you can't see your ressie at the DCL website, but you can see all the info at DU's web site. I went through the same process as described. I booked with DCL to get the 10% on board booking discount and $200 stateroom credit fully intending to move it to DU. I'm pretty excited about working with a TA since I've never done so before. I have to admit, the rebate had a lot to do with it. It was also the fact that I have someone helping me watch for the new itineraries and lower cost dates.

Since the upgrade thing is a mystery, I can't imagine being able to change your chances one way or another. I know there have been posts and things describing a "formula" for booking early or late, booking a GTY room as opposed to a specific cabin....I think it's more a function of DCL needing more a particular cabin type than another on any given cruise.

HTH,
Juli

Although I don't work for Dreams Unlimited, I am a travel agent and can tell you how it works.

When you transfer a reservation from Disney to another travel agency, there is no reason to lose any benefits, such as shipboard credits in the transfer. That should remain the same.
The benefit would be the extra money you are saving by transferring your reservation. Basically, how you are saving money is by the TA discounting their commission.

Any other questions, please ask!!

Is there a web page with this information about DU on it? My DH booked this trip for us as a surprise for my BD, so he didn't do much shopping around. (Shops with his heart sometimes not his head). I think I understand it but showing him something in black and white (of whatever color you are using) would be alot easier.
We are on the Feb 26th Wonder so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Happy Sailing and Pixie dust to all!!!!:wave2:

Hey mickeygirl18976- hopefully he shopped for prices first. If you are booked for this 2/26/04 then it's probably too close to make changes, and any other travel agents won't have deals left to give. I started with AllSeasons because they post the price of the cruises on their site. www.allseastravel.com I then priced around and found that AllSeasons was the best by 610.00. While onboard you have a chance to rebook another cruise at a discount (this time the offer was 10% off + a 200.00 per stateroom credit) Booking onboard makes Disney Cruise Line ( DCL) your travel agent ( if you don't request it they could make your previous travel agent your agent again) The only downside then is that if a special offer like this rebate from Dreams Unlimited is offered you can not switch from another travel agent to Dreams for the additional rebate, But you can switch from DCL to Dreams. These DisBoards are sponsored by DreamsUnlimited and their info and links are everywhere. For other info just ask.

Thanks so much for the help. I think I understand this now. (bare with me a minute) I believe what you are explaining is that when we are on board our cruise in Feb we will be offered a chance to book another cruise at a discounted price by DCL. Is that correct? And if we do so and transfer our arrangements to DU, then we will receive other discounts or rebates as well? Please let me know if I am in the right ball park.

I can only hope my DH shopped around for this cruise, but knowing his limited spare time, I have this feeling he didn't. (You would think he would have known better since I worked for a consolidator for several years and we travel so much!!! :p )

Yes Mickeygirl, you're exactly right. Dreams Unlimited does apply their rebates to reservations that are booked onboard that are either assigned or transferred to Dreams.

The Dreams rebate is competely separate from the onboard booking discount/shipboard credit offer that you're certain to find when you sail later this month. The two offers are combineable.

If you have any questions regarding Dreams, you're welcome to email john@dreamsunlimitedtravel.com . He's always happy to help.:D

Are the % discount, stateroom credit & rebate all the same for a 3 or 4 night as they are for a 7 night? If not, what it the difference, thanks!!:D

Hey Mark what was the final outcome of this???
Mark, have you contacted All Seasons? For shipboard bookings, I'm sure they would immediately match the DU rebate for you and any of their other existing clients. They were excellent with our bookings.

Cheers,
Grumbo

Gotta tell you, just transfered our DCL res to Dreams Unlimited and saved the family Two Hundred bucks! We originally made our reservation onboard the Wonder and got what I still say was a great price for a Seven Day Magic. Thanks to the tip from this board I transfered that reservation to Dreams Unlimited (painlessly I might add) and got a $200.00 rebate off our trip. Same dates, same Category, same stateroom. Even kept our onboard credit given when we booked on the Wonder.

Some folks may think I'm overreacting here, but two hundred dollars is a lot to us. DW and I work a lot of part time job hours to be able to afford these vacations.

Thanks to these boards for all the great tips, and to Dreams for making the transfer so smooth!

Maybe DU can get a group rate for those of us going in 2005 on the Andy and Rae 50th Birthday Celebration cruise - we are waiting til mid May, June, July and August 2005 dates are released - but it may be a good idea to get that group rate!!!

Thanks DU!

Rae

Hello Grumbo- Yes, I contacted AllSeasons and they matched the offer, so I am staying with them for now.

Mark & Sandra:

When you rebooked with DCL (not designating a TA and leaving it with DCL), I gather that you had (1)originally booked with All Seasons directly, (2)then rebooked onboard w/ DCL and (3)later transferred to DU or All Seasons? Am I understanding this order? How is a ressie rebooked?...is the exact ressie cancelled then rebooked or do you have to take your chances with another ressie and then cancel your previous one?

Thanks.
Penny
