If you own a newer Honda Pilot can you give me your opinion?

I wasn't planning on trading in my 2004 Odyssey with 189,000 miles yet but we came across a good deal on a 2015 Pilot because of the 2016 remodel. The choice comes down to get the current model and save about $9000 or wait another 2 years and spend probably that $9000 more but get the new (2018)model.

I struggle because it is fun to get the latest model year but I am so practical, My concern's about the 2015 come down to is it comfortable for long drives and the gas milage? So if anyone who owns one can give me advice it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I had my 2013 Nissan Pathfinder lemoned out about 15 months ago and had to purchase a car right then. The car that I wanted was the 2014 Toyota Highlander (redesign), but it wasn't going to be released for a few months. I could either buy the old Highlander design or purchase a different brand of car. I could have gotten a screaming deal on the old Highlander design, but in the end knew that I would never be happy driving that vehicle and seeing the new redesigned models on the road in a couple of months. That sentiment may seem silly to some, but I came to the conclusion that if you are spending that much money on a vehicle, you should be really happy with it and not feel that you are settling. Especially if you plan on keeping the vehicle for a long time - which we do.

I ended up with the 2014 Honda Odyssey Elite and am happy with it. We looked at the Pilot, but it did not have enough cargo room for us. We had a minivan before the Pathfinder, and missed the extra space that a minivan provided.

I have a 2011 Pilot which I got in Oct. I have the Eco drive and I get 19-20 miles per gallon. The longest trip we have done in it was 2 hours and it was comfortable for that. I absolutely love it! Like a PP I had a accord before and I enjoy the extra space.

I will be honest I am not a van person so for me it would be the pilot. The odyssey are nice tho my parents have one and I do think they are nice and comfortable and the do have more cargo room if you need the last row for people. We are a family of 3 so most of the time the back row in the pilot is down for extra cargo space.

We do have the cargo/roof rack so we could buy the cargo thing for the top if we needed it. If we had family travel with us on vacation.

We have a 2014 Pilot and Crosstour and we LOVE, LOVE, LOVE them! We actually traded in our BMW X5 for the Pilot. It gets better gas mileage and has been very comfortable. It is our weekend vehicle or when we go away. We are family of 3 but love the 3rd row seating for when we have extra guests. It has been a nasty winter so my DH has driven it to work and it handles well. I definitely recommend them and would certainly get another one in a heartbeat.

I went from a Toyota Sienna to a pilot last year and my only regret is that I didn't do it sooner. I absolutely love my pilot. I was worried about going from the van with a lot of space to an SUV, ( at the time we had 3 kids, now we have 4), but for our needs I have discovered that I have more usable space with the pilot then I did with the Sienna. I have found it very comfortable for travel.

I don't have the new model but I do have a 2007 and I definitely will buy another one when I'm done with this one. Love it. We've taken it from MA to PA and it was very comfortable on the long drive. Also have used all 8 seats when carpooling and never had an issue. Would not attempt 8 adults.

I agree with this. When we first got ours we took a friend an her family ( her hubby and son) on a day trip with us. They are pooh sized. We had 3 teens in the very back, 2 larger adults and our smaller child between them in the middle and my husband and I in the front. They said they where comfortable and enjoyed the ride, but they where used to all 3 riding on a bench seat in a pickup.

Do the seats feel comfortable, I'm not worried how many I can fit as it is mostly just my husband and I, the kids are all grown. I do think the head rests feel awkward but I am used to the Odyssey that can't be beat for comfort. But I'm over the minivan and its time to move on.

I find the seats comfortable. It took a little getting used to switching from the minivan, but it just felt different, not bad. One of my children has joint issues and he prefers the seats in the pilot. He said they do not make his hips hurt as bad after a longer trip.

I also wanted to add that I personally found t much easier to handle than my van. For the first few weeks after I got it I had to watch my speed because it was so smooth I did not realize how fast I was going.

I will be the negative one and say I will not replace my current Pilot with another one when the time comes. In fact I would trade it in now but we have just made our last payment and I want to go without a payment for a while. We had the original Pilot after having a CRV and loved both. The first Pilot drove like a car, handled well and was comfortable...but we were over 100,000 and needed some expensive repairs so we decided to trade it. The "new" Pilot is very different from the original...much more like a truck...in my experience hard to see over the boxy front end and still hard to park even though we have owned it for years...and this is the car I drive every day. Gas mileage is not great. We do use it for long trips and find it comfortable. If you get one for sure go with leather...the fabric (at least on our model) is the worst I have ever had in a car. It looks slick when it is new, but stains like nothing I have ever seen and looks very dirty with water and food stains that we cannot get out. Or course I feel well protected in it due to its size, and it can fit 8 people in a pinch which is one reason why we bought it. We will stick with Hondas in the future but since our kids are older now the next one will probably be a CRV.

I went from the odyssey to the pilot. I LOVE my pilot! I always felt the van was too big for me. We have taken several long trips in it and it is very comfortable. Also has lots of room in the back. It's nice to have he extra row when we need it and there's still some room to stow stuff behind the third row. I would buy another one again in a second!!

Unless money is no object. I'd definitely go with the $9000 in savings and get the 2015. Also, your trade in on the Odyssey is worth more now than it will be in two years. And a lot can happen in two years (like a costly transmission failure.)

Also, do you need all that space of the Pilot ? A more economical option (and a great car) is the CRV.

We had an Odyssey before this, but I traded it in after 14 months because I just hated driving a van. :)

Yes we need the room, we bike and want to put our bikes in back for traveling. I agree on the CRV it is a great car, my DD has a 2014 and I love it.

I have a 2012 Pilot and I love it. Had 3 minivans before the Pilot. I have 3 kids [all teens] and drive a lot of kids around. It is more cramped when you have more kids in it but I'm so happy with the Pilot. I just bought it this summer.

We traded in our 2011 pilot for a 2014 Pilot because we got a great deal due to the upcoming remodel. We love all the features and since we drive far distances for vacations it is a great car for travel.

I leased a 2008 pilot and traded it in at the end of the lease for another brand. Have regretted it for the last 3 years. Really wish we bought it out and kept it.

save the money. it's just a car. I have a 2015 Pilot (previous Odyssey and Suburban owner). I love the Pilot. I loved my Odyssey, too. We went with the Pilot because of the savings over the Odyssey. I have 5 kids at home and we use all the seats in the Odyssey often. Just took a 2000 mile road trip with 7 people (so one unused seat), 4 of them teens. It was tight and we were a little tight with luggage room, but it was definitely doable. I agree that the Pilot is super smooth to drive. I would go for savings over newer style any day. Another option would be to lease the 2015 for a 2-3 years and then buy the newer body style at the end of the lease.
