If you like your steaks "well done" you might want to reconsider Le Cellier

Mermaid, so did we!!! It was awesome! I say give it a chance :)

Or don't- leave more room for us! :tink: Yeah, this restaurant is terrible, yeah, that's the ticket.

I would not expect this from a very high quality steak house. You must understand that this restaurant is often given reviews that would make it seem on par with that calibar of restaurant. I wanted the person who orders a well-done steak to know it was not, in our experience.
I don't believe it ever was. As I indicated above, I've visited Le Cellier several times, from the time it was opened, and it never had the kind of high quality steaks that Shula's (for example) offers. If you really want a great steak, take the walk out the International Gateway and eat at Yachtmans Steakhouse or Shula's.

We have had mixed results with our meals at LeCellier & neither of us like our steaks well done. I do think it is harder for any steakhouse to do a well-done steak right. My dd & dm prefer their steaks well-done - we can pretty much expect that when Dad orders steak, it will be going back to the kitchen at least once.

That said, we ate at Shula's last March. We were very disappointed - the steaks were not great, service was greatly lacking & the atmosphere was very "businessy". Fine if you were taking clients out for a meal, but not romantic or even refined. We are going to try Yachtsman Steakhouse next time to see if they live up to their reputation.

ME TOO! This is supposed to be our nice anniversary dinner...just the two of us. :love2: Anybody have a suggestion for another restaurant? (It needs to be in Epcot.)

I have an idea for your anniversary...
Get your DD booked into the easiest-to-get-to Kids Club(Neverland Club/Poly, etc). Then order some room service...you might even be able to get food delivered from a WDW on-site restaurant if you're staying at a place without a room service option). Or instead of ordering room service...maybe the day before, go to Goodings and get your all your favorite food - wine, cheese, good bread, fancy appetizers..you could get quite a fabulous feast(even at Goodings prices) for probably more than half of what you'd pay for dinner at a fancy place. The day of your "time-off" take your DD on the bus to the nearest Kids Club, leave your darling there...most kids BEG to stay when their parents come to pick them up) and get back to your resort, have a *very* nice Mom-&-Dad-*ONLY* time ;) .
Pick up DD after some time has passed and the two adults have had a chance to have some alone time and drink the nice bottle of wine and eat that in-room picnic/room service dinner...

But that's just my idea of romance...not all of that planning, but having some alone time with DH :teeth: ...

agnes!

Our party of twelve dined at Le Cellier a couple of weeks ago. Wow! We we underwhelmed! First, the steaks...DH and I both enjoy our steaks well done. (I know, I know--we have been dubbed "Yankees" for that preference by our Texas friends for years!) First of all, I think it is a cheap trick to give a steak, to those who order it well done, that is half the thickness of those who order it medium or medium well. (There were several steaks ordered that way at our table to which we could compare ours) That's a fine trick if you are the Bonanza! There is no way that a restaurant that does this should be considered a first class steak house! A top notch steak house can serve a thick, well done steak that is juicy and delicous! We have enjoyed many such steaks through the years. Our steak at Le Cellier was closer to a shoe-leather experience. Not entirely inedible, just not great. My SIL's cheese soup had good flavor but was served luke warm. She just really enjoys a HOT bowl of soup. The pretzel bread was the highlight of the meal for everyone! Service was pretty good. The desserts were good. My oldest DS enjoyed the chocolate orange cake. He said if you hate really rich chocolate cake you would not enjoy this. Most of us ordered the maple creme brulee. It was "ok". We had maple infused creme brulee at the Yacht Club Galley (not sure how often they serve it) that was far superior, in our opinion! The younger set ordered the chocolate "moose" dessert. While cute, they thought it tasted "ok".
I can honestly say we would not hurry back to this restaurant. (We had been several years ago and it enjoyed the experience more) Those who ordered their steaks medium enjoyed them much more than DH and I. This is nice "theme park" food but if you happen to like a well done steak and have your expectations set high, you might want to pass on this one. This is no Ruth's Chris or Del Frisco's!

Tell your Texas Friends that most Yankee's don't like them that way either. My dad was born and raised in MS and likes them Well done as well (tastes like shoe leather to me... It isn't a regional thing, its just a preference of liking dry meat ;-)

Ummm, I'm thinking I should change our ADR :confused3

For every person here who didn't enjoy it, you will find someone who does. I would suggest ignoring the reviews, check the menu and make sure you see food you will like and then going to what sounds good. I personally love Coral Reef, but there are people on here who dislike it passionately... they either don't like the food or had bad service (it happens even at Disney). I am not a fan of Artist's Lodge (bad experience there) but others swear by it.

I am always willing to give a place at Disney 2 chances (1 chance on seperate trips) if i have a bad experience. Some places I don't go back because of the menu (such as the Moraccan restaurant... ok, but I would rather go to Italy or Japan instead) which to me is the best reason to try a place. Ultimately, it is one meal, and you may really like it. Do a search on LeCellier... you will find many posters who absolutely love it. I honestly doubt you will find any Restaurant (even V and A) who doesn't have a bad review on here.

While I agree with part of what your saying, taken to an extreme we would not need this restaurant board, no one would need to post their experiences, etc. Having been on this restaurant board since November of 1999 almost daily, I tend to watch for trends. I have seen Le Cellier go from the place to avoid to the hottest place in Epcot. I dined at Le Cellier when it was starting to be really "hot" and can honestly say I enjoyed it much more on that visit than this one. Perhaps the tide is turning on this restaurant or perhaps not. If enough people post their experience then we can observe the long term trends. Dinner costs my large family a minimum of $200 per WDW experience these days. Steak restaurants cost significantly more. Before I plop down my money I like to do a little research to find out if most folks are enjoying a particular spot.

Very well said :)

Add us to the list of Le Cellier lovers.. Steaks cooked perfectly (medium well) and the food was outstanding from the cheddar cheese soup to the chocolate cake. I can't wait to celebrate my 30th birthday there in May. My opinion is to take all posts with a grain of salt. I agree with the poster who suggested to check out the menu first.

:cheer2:
