I really hate to always haunt you people but you're soooo good at this stuff. Here's todays question...
I fully anticipate needing to borrow points for my Jan '09 vacation as it's shaping up to be a big one. But as we all know, family back out, plans change and point needs change. So... I'm trying to put myself in the best possible position to accomodate needs and ward off disaster.

136 pts for '08
150 pts for '09
Need 251 points anticipating everyone's in as promised.
I'm thinking I should borrow all of my '09 points and use them first. I'll cap off the ressie need with my '08 points. That way, if people cancel I can always bank my leftover '08 points.
things to know: I'm definitely using at least 150 pts in Jan '09.
These points have a Sept use year.

I guess that I would use the borrowed points for my own ressie, if I knew that was the definite one, and use the Sept. '08 points for the "most likely to cancel" group.

MS should be able to reallocate the points for you if need be, and that would help as long as you are in the period where you COULD bank the '08 points.

I think they will make you use the 08 points first and then borrow the others from 09. They will only borrow as many as you need when you are ready to make a reservation. If they are 08 points and you have to cancel you can still bank them as you will have until the end of April with a Sept UY. You would need to tell them to leave the 09 points that you borrowed on the reservation and bank the unused 08 ones.

That's what i was thinking, they aren't going to let you borrow points if you have current use year points available. Now I guess you could make a "fake" reservation, one you have no intention of using with all of you '08 points and then call and make the one you need using '09 then cancell the "fake" one.

Alright. One more question and I'll leave you alone.
Let's assume I make reservations that essentially use all of my remaining '08 points and the bulk of my '09 points. Then I cancel those reservatios and rebook at another DVC using far less points. Are you saying that I can ask MS to bank my '08 points and use the '09 points for the reservation?
And let me just say as an aside...I'm not trying to get away with anything sneeky...I really want the big reservation with lots of family to work out.

Yes, if you cancel and use fewer points for another reservation, any current UY points that aren't used can be banked.
