I keep hearing about how bad the lighting is in the bathrooms at the Poly. If you have sayed at the AKL and the Poly would you say it is about the same? Or is the Poly a little lighter in the bathroom?

I have stayed at both! And both are wonderful-although my last visit to AKL we had a pool view and IMHO I won't go back with out having a Savanna view;probably due to our very 1st trip to WDW and we had a Savanna view. The Poly is my ultimate fave! I love to watch wishes from the beach and see the castle change colors all nite!!! LOL But yes the bathrooms are a TAD-not much lighter-than AKL. Hope this helps! Either way you can't go wrong!

thanks
We are not going to AKL this trip... Just wondering about the lighting in the bathrooms at Poly.
I know people say they are dark so I thought this would be a good way for me to compare. (Since we have stayed at AKL two times):)

Tha actual lighting is the same;I believe the green marble makes it seems like a "lighter" bathroom, compared to the black marble @ AKL.

I've never stayed at the AKL yet, but at the Polyn, it was so dark in the bathroom, that I had to put on make up in front of the mirror by the patio door. We also use a flashlight to get items off the shelfs under the sink.

We've stayed at Poly several times -going again at Christmas - and have never had a problem with the lighting. There are always 4 of us, all girls, in the room, and NO complaints! Have fun...

We just got back from the Poly two hours ago. The lighting in the bathroom was just fine. I wear contacts, so I am very particular about the lighting and I had no problems with it.:)

I've stayed at both and must say I did not notice a difference in lighting. We just stayed at the Poly in August and the lighting was just fine.

We stayed at the Poly last Nov. and that was the only thing I said I would change was the lighting in the bathroom. Too dark for me. JMHO

We were at the Poly in May and just loved it. I too agree the lighting is a little dim in the bathrooms. So, here is what I did, on either side of the mirror there are these kind of tiki looking lamps with a brownish shade around them. I took the shades off while I was getting ready/putting on makeup. They just slide on and off. When you take that shade off it brightens up the entire bathroom. Look on one of the threads with room pictures for Poly. You'll see in one of the bathroom pictures what I am talking about.

The lighting is not horrible, it's just a little darker than in most hotel rooms.

Hope that helps! Have a great trip!

I've stayed at both.

While didn't have a problem with the lighting at either place, I'd say the Poly seems brighter. Like a previous poster I think the bath decor and lighter marble makes it seem brighter

Thanks everyone. I was hoping it was a little lighter than the AKL. Sounds like it might be a little.

Not to sound *****y but why does the lighting in the bathroom matter? Hot water, clean and a working toilet are pretty much all I'm looking for. Am I missing something?

Not that big of a deal .. Just like light in a bathroom. And what better place to ask than here on the Dis?:goodvibes

I've stayed at both and I didn't notice much of a difference in the brightness/lighting in the bathrooms.

As you probably know, at the Polynesian the sinks and mirror are inside the tub/toilet area (one large bathroom); at AKL they're just outside the tub/toilet room, in an open alcove type area. I didn't think either resort's sink/mirror areas were especially bright, but I didn't find them too dark, either.

One thing I noticed at the Polynesian is that the longer the lights stay on, the brighter they get. From what I understand, they're that way on purpose. I guess this way it won't be too bright when you go in there first thing in the morning, or in the middle of the night :confused3

Anyway, the Polynesian is my all-time favorite resort, but I loved the AKL as well. :sunny:
