Not sure if this post belongs here, but thought it seemed most appropriate!

About the Littermaid, just want to know if you like it? Do you cats like it? It is more hassle than its worth? Which version do you have?

Thanks in advance!!!

I don't have one anymore, because I found it to be a pain. I do, however, have 5 cats, so that could be why. It just always seemed to jam, and it was a mess to clean when that happened. I just find it easier to use scooping litter (Sam's club brand is the BEST!) and use 3 or 4 boxes in different locations.

I LOVE mine! It does jam every now and then but it's easy to unjam it. It sweeps across the litter and if it's too full it cannot sweep all the way through. I keep a scoop next to it.

I have 4 cats and I kept my regular box just in case. They gradually stopped using the other totally.

I have the Mega. I believe it's the biggest one. My three cats love it. I also keep a regular box but need to clean it much less.

I just got one after christmas and I love it! (I dreaded cleaning out the litter box before!!) Mine hasn't gotten jammed yet, and I have the one w/ the little ramp, I think it's the 'plus' version. It keeps the smell from lingering by the litter box, and I empty it probably every 3 days or so. and my cat is really intrigued by it. Whenever it kicks on she goes and watches it. Just a heads up though, I wouldn't suggest buying the little tent they make for it. My mom bought one and not even a year later the thing is falling down. Instead, I took a big box, cut the bottom off, and a big section of one side, and stuck the litter maid in the box. And the cat loves that. (She won't go potty in a litter box with out a cover/top/whatever you want to call it. I'm gonna paint the box white or something so it doesn't stick out as much.

tricia.

I just got the mega one last weekend (it was on sale :teeth: ). So far, I am loving it. I have 2 cats. A couple of times, there was litter clumping on the sweeping combs, and I noticed Cali enjoys going right on the combs, so this may be why. :teeth:

thanks everyone! so far i'm liking the responses!

i only have one cat so i dont really feel like i need the mega. any model work well for my situation??

thanks again!!!

I love it!! And my cat runs in to watch it each and every time it turns on:D

Ok I am going to try this again. Right in the middle of my reply my oldest cat, Trixie, turned off the computer. I'm on a laptop and she walked over and put her foot on the power key. Anway I don't have a littermaid. I was given one but never used it. I had already been told by my mom that the unit was loud and clogged easily. (It came with my youngest kitty when we inherited her from grandma) Instead I splurged and bought a Litter-Robot. They are expensive but it has already paid for itself in kitty litter and my time. We now have 3 cats and I had to clean the litter box 2X a day before and now I just pull out the white trash bag and make sure it has litter every other day. (Takes less then 5min)The motor developed a glitch and they paid to have it shipped to them and returned it in less then a week:) Before I bought it I went through a 28 lb bucket of litter EVERY WEEK:eek: That amount lasts me at least 4 weeks now.:) I just thought I would put another option out there:)

Oh my youngest kitty is fascinated with it. She loves to watch it go around:tongue:

Never heard of the litter robot...will have to look that one up!!!

thanks!

I had a litter maid but had to get rid of it.
I have 4 cats and one of my cats insists on doing his buisness on the edge of the litter box. He never poops in the middle of the box. So when he has looser stool it is all over the side of the box.
It caused quite a mess with the litter maid and it was easier to use the regular box
I have had him checked for UTIs and worms, and anything else the vet can think of. The vet just thinks that this cat is weird and likes to have his bum near the edge. Who knows.
Wish there was something I could use though, the litter maid did make alot less work for me when it was used right. Peggie

Here is a link to the Litter Robot page. You have to buy it online becuase it isn't in the stores. Still it was one of the better investments I have ever made:)

My parents have one for their two cats. My mom loves not having to change the litter all the time, but the pan thing itself seems a bit small (or maybe she just has huge cats!) Also it tends to jam in the sense that it doesn't turn itself off. So if you are gone for a couple hours and the thing jams and doesn't turn itself off and the cat has to go, it can't go while that thing is moving so...you may find a present in another part of the house (that is, if you only have one litter box). ;)

I really love mine! I have the regular size - bought it for $65 on eBay. The boys were a little leery at first, but then they figured it out. For a while they were going in it, messing around the litter, then waiting to see it go. Now it's routine, and I only have to empty it once every other day (with two cats.) It does get jammed every now and again, but that's usually a sign I need to clean it or put in fresh litter.

We have two of the littermaid megas. When DH is in town, he takes care of them and as a whole, they're fantastic. When I have to take care of them, I'm not sure which I prefer, because the canisters can get so heavy....

I have one and it's great! Does anyone else buy the 4 gallon trash bags on the roll and put those in the "compartment"? It's very handy all you need to do is lift the trash bag out and put a new one in. It save $ on buying new plastic containers all the time. ::yes::

Wow that is GENIUS!!! I usually leave a huge ball of plastic grocery bags in the closet next to the litterbox, and when it's time to empty i just grab one, open the thing and dump the plastic container out into the garbage bag, but putting an actual bag in there would be great! Does it ever get stuck? That would be my only fear with that, that the plastic bag might get caught up in the mechanism. Though I think there must be a way to keep it separate.

tricia.

We have one and we love it. We have one cat and we only need to change the container about every 4- 5 days. When we first got it, it didn't work for some reason. We called them and they sent us a new one right away. We've had it about 3 months and it hasn't jammed yet. If it were to jam and you weren't home, it has a sensor (at the least the model we have does), so as soon as the cat steps in the litterbox, it stops moving and the cat can still use the litterbox.

We have 2 cats and I am suppose to have "husbandmaid" (the deal that was made in having pets) but he seems to have selective hearing when it comes to the litter.

Does this scare any of the cats? My DSis had one but had to get rid of it because her cats were too scared to use it. Instead they starting going around the house so she got rid of it. I'm not sure how my 2 cats would react to it. DH would be thrilled since he gets litter duty! (Maybe I'll pick a littermaid up for him for Valentines Day ;) )
