If you have an exceptionally beautiful child...

We have one of these children in the family and we just treat her like every other child and love her like all the other children.

If the child and the family are grounded all will be well.

In all of my 38 years I can honestly say that I have never ever seen an exceptionally beautiful child.

I have never looked at a child and thought, "OMG- they are so beautiful"

Are there really that many exceptionally beautiful children out there because all I have come across are ugly, average and pretty.:confused3

You'd think a quick glance at the definition of both average and exceptional would clue folks in on where most the children (or adults for that matter) fit in on the bell curve of beauty.

Her fire dancer, how about this for Fire Dancers

Exactly. Most children, and adults, are average looking. There are very few people in this world who are exceptionally beautiful- but I guess, somehow, they are all on the Disboards!

I mostly agree... the one exception being my neighbors granddaughter. She is stunning! She's very exotic looking and it's hard not to notice her. Much different than classic good looks though. Plenty of people are attractive.

We get stopped a lot. I mean a lot. I've spent the last year trying to get stranger danger in her head. I have all these random people coming up talking to her, commenting on her, and doing crazy stuff like touching her hair.

And she freaks out! Don't touch my kid! Yes, she sings. Yes she dances. But don't bother her while she is playing (she plays everywhere we go).

So I'd never approach a kid and tell them how pretty they are. I would toss out a random "good job!" or something like that. Age 4 goal - drilling into the little one, "pretty is as pretty does".

Oh Boy!!!!!
Here we go~

?

What exactly is wrong with teaching a kid to act nice?

Oh nothing at all. It is the thing to do.

For someone who is teaching "stranger danger" I just wouldn't post so many photos on this forum or any other.

Praise a child's attitude, or behavior, or kindness to others, rather than their beauty.

I think it's actually an interesting topic.

I had a friend in college who was very good looking. To make it worse, she was an identical twin. People definitely looked AND commented.

She was a nice gal, and didn't really see what the other people saw, but was certainly aware of the attention. What it did was do a big number on what she thought she had to look like to be acceptable.

I always felt bad for her. She was very shy, and like someone might be with a disfigurement that attracted attention, she was always having people look at her. In general, people don't want to be always noticed for their looks. Looks are not who you are.

I have the perfect poster for all the nurseries of these exceptionally beautiful children:
