If you have a laptop, does it break down often?

I have a Sony VAIO, which I love, it has never had any problems, but then it is only 10 months old.

I also have an Apple ibook G4, and that has also never broken down. I have had it for 2 years :thumbsup2

I just know the minute I reply to this post, something will happen to my laptop, but with that said...My Dell Inspiron 6000 does not break down. I've had it 8 months now. We love our Dells (just bought our 3rd).

I have a Compaq, an HP and and Apple. The compaq was a real nice machine until the screen lamp went out. They want $1100 for the lamp, so I am using it as a desktop now. The HP has been nothing but trouble since I bought it. It went back to HP 4 times within the first year! The hard drive has a factory defect and recall, but it has been replaced twice. One other time I sent it back because the USB drives would not detect USB flash drives and some other peripherals. The last time I had to send it back because the DVDR wouldn't read or write DVDs anymore. The best machine I have is my Apple iBook G4 (actually, I prefer my iMac, but we are talking about laptops). The machine never crashes...ever...ever...really, ever. I have nothing but good to say about this machine (I am writing this on the G4). In fact, it was this machine that made me a convert to Apple. Since I purchased this one, I now have an iMac for the office, and a Mac Mini for the house. I run OSX on all of the machines, but when I need it I run Windows on the other two machines (this one does not have the Intel chip, so I sometimes have to run Virtual PC).

I have a Dell Latitude D600 (from work) and use every day. In fact, I use it more often for non-work stuff (like DISing) than I do work related. It has not had one single problem (knock on wood).

I have a d600 for work and a d610 for personal use. I have had the 600 for 3 years and the 610 for 2 and they work like a champ!

I have a Dell Inspiron 6000 and it has been(knock wood) fantastic.
I don't have an opinion about their customer service because I've never had a reason to use it.

Sony Vaio here! No problems at all after 18 months of continuous use!!! Had a Dell.... never again!

I have a Dell Inspiron 5100. it's a POS.

I'm on my 2nd motherboard, 3rd hard drive, 4th AC adapter, and 2nd battery. And customer service doesn't even merit the title of "service" it's so bad.

mine is working this week - it wasn't working last week, though. It changes daily.

I already posted about by Gateway I bought at best buy. I love it.

Before this I had a Dell PC. I would never go back to Dell because of their horrible customer service. My suggestion to anyone wantin to do basic computing and surf the net is to get a laptop from Best Buy and if something goes wrong you fold it up and bring it to the store. They have Geek Squad which is very good and you get to talk to someone in person.

When I had the problems with Dell I could't understand what they were saying. I think I got someone from India who was trying to sound like someone from California or the midwest (not sure). It was the strangest accent I ever heard. By the way they said their name was Bob. LOL.

We currently have a Dell Inspiron and love it. We have not had anything go wrong with it. My Mom also has had a Dell for the last 2 or 3 years and nothing has ever gone wrong with hers either.

Dell Inspirion B-120 -- cheapest they make. I use it when DW is hogging my desktop which is most nights -- has integrated WIFI -- nothing special, but no problems at all yet -- cost was under $500. Had an Compaq which had many problem (from work). Ditched that and use a Blackberry now for my email. Bought DD an HP a few years ago for school and it's still running fine. I had to replace the HD recently, but that happens. It's very easy to do and 2 1/2" drives are cheap now. Good luck.
