If you have a laptop, does it break down often?

I bought my Gateway at BestBuy last April. It's been in the store 4 times now, and has had the mother board replaced 3X. One more time and they replace it. *cringe* Yes this is a DOOR STOP If you ask me.

Though it is not typical of the brand, let me assure you. My previous Gateway was Wonderful. My bf's dad has the same lap top and he's never had a lick of trouble, so I think I just got the joke compy.

I bought one from www.Ibuypower.com and one from www.sagernotebook.com last year. We love them both and have had no problems. We use them everyday. I also got a canon Ip90 portable printer to go along with them..that's great too!

The ibuypower laptop has a smaller screen 15" than the sager laptop 17"
There is a big difference!

Those are the two laptops I would recommend, I did a lot of research before buying them as I do with just about everything I spend $ on!

Sager is advertising Back to School Blowouts, an instant $400 off.
I know when you look at the websites they say gaming notebooks, which are just really powerful notebooks at all price ranges. Gamers get very upset when their notebooks break and they can't game, therefore they put a lot of quality into these 2 notebooks! Ours aren't used for gaming, but for office duties.

I have a Dell Latitude D600 (from work) and use every day. In fact, I use it more often for non-work stuff (like DISing) than I do work related. It has not had one single problem (knock on wood).

We have a Dell, and it's never broken down. We don't care for the customer service, though...

Ours is a Toshiba...and it gets used almost every day (like now) and it's never had a problem. It's almost 2 years old (don't know if that makes a difference or not).

I have an Apple iBook G4. Never a problem with it in the soon to be 3 full years I've had it. :thumbsup2

Wish I could say the same about the past 2 desk tops I owned! They were a Comp USA custom made (will NEVER buy another thing in THAT store. Not even 2 years out of it.) and the one previous to that which lasted 3 years was a Packard Bell. Guess they're gone. Sheesh.

Love my iBook!!!! :teeth:

I have a Dell and never had one problem with it for 4 years now...

Had my Compaq for 4 years -no problems. Sold to my mom and she has been using it for 2 years still no problems. :)

My company gave me an Averatec laptop from Best Buy back in 2003. The 3 year warranty came up in April and I realized I never used it. I brought it in for a check up and to get some basic things done and they practically gave me a new laptop!

It's very small and easy to transport and I really like it. My only complaint is the keyboard so I added an USB keyboard to it.

I bought my Gateway from best buy and it is the only computer in my house. I ditched my bulky PC and just use this. So far I have not experienced any problems and between the three of us it seems like someone is always on it.

I would reccomend it to anyone wanting to get rid of the clutter. From here on in I will only use a laptop. Also, I paid $835 for it and it came with a whole package and a printer. It is one of the best purchases I made in a long time.

I have a HP Pavilion 4500. It is about 2 years old. Been in the shop 2 times. Power cord hook up problem first. Hard drive 2nd.
DD has a toshiba. It is in the shop right now (1 year old) for a power cord problem.
I have ordered a new Dell. Have a Dell desktop that had a hard drive problem once. Had no problem with the customer service- had in home repair warrenty and they came right out and fixed it. I have purchased in home repair on the Dell laptop as well.

Same goes for me. They did have the recall batteries but mine was not one of them. I don't use it as much as my desk top but once I start using my pellet stove again I will be using it soley, in the living room when I will get the warmth from that. I love my dell products, the only thing that sticnks is when I have a question on something I end up wth a call that goes to India, thet is frustrating when the language barriar gets in the way

Mine is an HP and it had a minor issue with the power cord not staying in so it would always fall out. Because it fell out so many times it drained the battery and it could never recharge so it would always cut off due to dead battery. I guess it cut off one to many times and messed something up with the memory. Brought it back to Best Buy (since I bought it there and also bought the protection plan) I had to have a new hard drive put in and I lost everything on the old one. But other than that I haven't had a problem with it and I use it every day before work and for hours after work.

My sister had an E-Machines that was a total piece of junk - she had it back to Best Buy 4 times so they ended up giving her a new laptop - she got an HP and is happy with it (I tried to tell her to stick with HP - I have an HP laptop, HP desktop, HP destop at work, an HP printer and an HP scanner so yeah I think I like HP.

I have had 3 laptops; a Dell (which I hated); I also have a Compaq and and Apple Ibook. Both are great!! I love having laptops and could never go back to a reg computer. I am even trying to convince my boss to get laptops for the office.

We have a Dell...no problems..

However as previous poster mentioned their customer service is absolutely horrible!! :sad2:

I had two Compaqs in a row die within weeks of the warranty expiring. This was about the time the HP bought Compaq so there may have been a few bumps during the transition.

I have a Dell laptop that I have never had a problem with, but it is only a couple of years old (longer than my Compaqs lasted though). Dell customer service is the pits, but their products seem to be pretty well built. I have an old Dell computer (at least 6 years old) that I use in New Orleans for intenet access.

We had IBM laptops at my office, and they were not reliable at all. We all went through them like potato chips. I had a screen go bad, multiple hard disk failures, modem burnout, power cord problems, etc. That wasn't just me - everyone else had problems too.

My sister has a Mac powerbook. She's had a few problems with it - lost her hard disk most recently. It's been in the shop about 3 times, but it is 3-4 years old.

Four Apple laptops. All still working. I just bought new ones to upgrade.

I've had a Dell 600M for the past year and half without any problems. I've never had to call for help.

My wife has a IBM from her company that always seems to have issues.

I have a Dell Inspiron 6000. I have only had 2 problems, one was a virus thanks to my lovely kids turning off McAfee and then my recent one when my hard drive went Kaboom. Called tech support within 20 minuts they had ordered me a nw hard drive and I mentioned a key was broken on it so theyh ordered me a new keyboard too. Computer guy was out in 4 days to replace everything (2 of those were weekend days). I have had no nservice issues at all, maybe I just got lucky.
