If you had to pick a summer month to vacation at WDW, what would you pick? We've been able to vacation during slower times like October and May in the past since our kids are young. However, in the next year or two, taking them out of school for a vacation may not be an option.

So, if our vacation is going to be during the summer, when should we go? School for our kids usually gets out somewhere around June 10th and resumes just after Labor Day.

Thanks for your help!

Hi, laughinplace199, we're from the Boston area too and we also used to go in October right up until our kids were in fourth grade. Last year we went the week before Labor day (and we're doing it again this year). The crowds at that time of year are not bad at all, since most of the schools in the South have already started up again.

joe1946, thanks for the quick reply! I was wondering how the crowds would be at that time of year. You make agood point about a lot of the schools in the South already being back in session.

Have fun on your upcoming trip!

I have been in June and July many times and the crowds are wild. I would have to choose mid to late August. I believe FL schools go back pretty early. The weather is the same, hot and humid. However, you still have the threat of hurricane season. There is no perfect time to go anymore. We visit for 2 weeks every early May and late October, then we throw together other trips along the way. We are up to 6 this year. Unfortunately for us, we are going in September for my big birthday celebration, which puts us right in the middle of hurricane season, but at least we got free dining to ease the sorrow of any weather that disrupts us.

coming from boston too, and we go the 3rd week of august most years. The crowds are half of what they were during the rest of the summer because of school being back in session as laughinplace mentioned. We often do not even need fast passes! Flights are cheap then too--69.00 each way out of Manchester, and the hotels have some good specials. It is also a great way to wrap up the summer as a family before the crazy hustle bustle of everyone going back to school and activities etc. Come on down! :flower:

we have gone once in June, and this time in July. May is obviously much more quiet, but I think more than the lines and crowds, is the heat... many people do not like it that hot. That being said, our family goes to Florida almost every summer since my oldest started school, so to us, it is not that big a deal. If you plan, you can do things to avoid the largest crowds. As was said before, if you wait too long into the summer, it is hurricane season. A calculated risk, I suppose.

School really gets in the way of having fun, for kids, and adults, doesn't it???

I also do the end of August when we have to go during the summer. I have noticed that word is really getting out about that timeframe & the free dining may impact crowd-levels a bit, but I bet it's still better than the rest of the summer.

We are taking our first August trip this year (19th - 28th) so I'll let you know how it goes! :)

Our oldest will be in the 5th grade this coming school year so we have to give up our low-crowds November trips. :( (youngest going into 1st grade) We have gone the end of June and it has been hot AND crowded.

We have also gone the last two April vacations and found the weather to be GREAT and the crowds not too bad. Unfortunately, in 2006 our spring break is right around Easter so we will have the crowds. We weren't going to go, but I got a great deal on airfare ($175.40/round trip per person) so we will go down tuesday - tuesday. The kids will miss 2 days of school, but it is right after the semester ends so it shouldn't be so bad - and nowhere as bad as an entire week. And, to put a financial price on it, we saved around $2000, just on airfare from this year! :)

In all actuality, Hurricane season starts June 1st. So the whole summer is really during hurricane season. The latter months tend to be the most heavy, but we have already had one tropical storm in Florida this year, and it's only July! I wouldn't let hurricane season stop you. I think Disney has only closed 2 times due to hurricanes. Shouldn't be something to stop you from going.
