If you had to compare the HOJO...

to another hotel chain, which would it be? I'm having a hard time picturing it in my head, even with the photos. So, what chain would you compare it to? We usually stay at Westin and Loews hotels for short stays and Homewood suites for extended. So, that's my frame of reference.

...not stayed @ Westin but have done Loews (universal orlando). The hojo is definately not that....but honestly we tend to stay in "nicer" hotels and the Hojo while it is certainly not that is still just fine. It is dated...especially the bathrooms but it is really clean. I was fine with giving up granite for proximity to the park and in fact are going back there a second time. My largest complaint was the noise from the freeway in the prmium view rooms...so we are moving to a different part of the complex (building 2)

So I am not sure if I can tell you what it compares to ...other than maybe your great aunt's place...very dated and not designed by your interior guy but none the less very comfortable and clean.

I would rate it about like a nice Holiday Inn. It's not a Hilton or Sheraton, but it's very nice. DW & I are picky about hotels - we usually like a more upscale place. But HoJo's passes our muster just fine. Clean rooms, well kept, good customer service. And I like the quiet by the main pool.

I think it's hard to say since Hojo is not even like other Howard Johnson hotels that are more motel-like. I would say that the rooms look just like the pictures on the website and are clean and the beds are heavenly!:lovestruc

No, the HOJO isn't as fancy as the ones you listed as others have said. It is a simple more motel style hotel, but it was perfectly clean and the staff was very nice and it filled all of our needs.

Keep in mind that there are't really any fancy hotels in walking distance of the parks (off property I mean). They are pretty much all more "motel" style, and HOJO is one of the slightly better ones.

Just pay attention to where your room is and put in a request so you aren't facing the freeway (that was pretty loud for us).

I've read so much about noise problems, especially if you book the standard king room, which will put you on the freeway side of building 1. So we have always booked the Deluxe 2-queen room for $10 more per night. These are in building 2, overlooking the garden pool. It's very quiet back there; never had any noise problems at all. I'm a big believer in the Deluxe 2-queen rooms. As a bonus, they have microwaves in addition to the standard small fridge.

I do love staying at the homes of little old ladies. So comfy and clean!

It's compares to a Holiday Inn or a Comfort Inn. I've never stayed at the hotels you've listed, so can't compare.

It's dated, it's clean (except for some of those bathroom vents!:scared1:), my socks DO NOT turn black when walking on the carpet, the beds are comfy, the garden pool is your standard pool but the waterpark is just the best! the services offered are pretty standard for the industry, the grounds are pretty and fairly well maintained (needs a little improvement here) and it's definately classified as a hotel.

BTW, the difference between a hotel and a motel is that hotels have interior corridors/hallways and motels have exterior, meaning you walk right outside when exiting your motel room.:goodvibes DH does NOT allow us to stay in motels due to the increased security risk, so this "minor" classification makes all the difference, for us at least, when picking a Disney hotel.

I have spent many years in the hotel industry and have worked at Holiday Inn, Comfort Inn, an all suites hotel, and some very upscale hotels...and even I have a hard time putting HoJo's in one of those categories. It truely is it's own little unique place and honestly, that's why we keep going back.
