If you had only one day at WDW all by yourself - what would you do?

Due to family circumstances I find myself with one day at WDW all by myself in August. I have never been there alone before. I plan to check out AP rates or SoG overflow rates and stay at a WDW hotel for one night. Also, I plan on checking out POR for a future trip, but what else should I do? So many options and so little time. I am overwhelmed and hope to get some advice here that will help ground me. Thanks

I did in December....and I loved it!
I just went to whatever park I wanted to go and took it really easy and enjoyed everything there was there. My favourite one would be Epcot, I love the wordshowcase .

I never been to WDW myself, but totally would!
I'd spend the day at MGM riding ToT and RnR, etc.
Then I'd have a nice dinner in Epcot in either Mexico or Italy and watch the fireworks show to complete the evening.

Another vote for Epcot here! I spent from 11am till the end of Illuminations in the WS by myself once. It was awesome!!! Of course catching a cab back to my off-site hotel was not easy, but it was worth it!

I would do World Showcse at Epcot as well. I never have the time to really explore the exhibits when I am with my family.

If $$$ was not in the game, I might spend the day in a spa!! Or I might go to my fav park, MK for the day, or I might go to MGM and see ALL the shows, or I might visit World Showcase and wander and eat my way around, or I might ...............

Again, hmmmmm!!!!

Good question!

Well I would have to fight off the urge to just sleep in ;) but I would make myself get up early and get room service breakfast and eat it on the balcony. I would then probably go to MK for the morning to ride a few of my favorites, skip on over to MGM to ride RnRC and TOT and then end the day at Epcot WS and Illuminations.

Suevee,
I am planning my 2nd solo trip this year in Sept - I used to live in Orlando, and would go solo all the time......I love doing what I want to do, knowing that I don't have to worry that someone else doesn't want to do that same thing (don't get me wrong - I like going with others too, but solo is liberating).

I think about what I would like to do (I have the Hopper passes so I don't limit myself to just 1 park). I check on the DW web site and see if there are any special events going on that I want to see and go from there. I was there in May, and started the day at AK (only my 2nd time there - not everything was open when I went the 1st time), did Kilimanjaro Safari, the Conservation Station, shows, mindless walking around then went back to the hotel for a cool down/rest before heading to MGM for dinner and Fantasmic!

Have fun!

DW usually schedules a Spa appointment for a morning or afternoon on day 5 or 6 of a trip - by then you need a break. I take that time just to wander around a park, enjoying that feeling of being totally on my own. I find that Epcot is strangely suited to this - there are so many little things to notice, places to explore and interesting things to eat. The MK comes in a close second in that category, but we have usually done MK so much more that Epcot seems more unexplored.

I would probably go to MK and check out all the shops. There is so much to do in that park that we never seem to really look at any of the shops there.

I would take my time. I would wander through MK, in all the shops I skip when I am with the kids, go any rides I feel like and eat what and when I want too. Then I would wander over to Epcot and do the countries, stopping for shows and snacks at my leisure.

Without a doubt I would go to World Showcase. I always have to race through it because it's not a big favorite of DH or DD. I'd sit down and have a nice lunch in Mexico and then probably spend way too much money in all the shops. (This was a fantasy thread, wasn't it?;) )

Thank you for all your posts. And no, grinningghost, this is not a fantasy post. In a few days, I will find myself in Central Florida on an unexpected family emergency. However, I will have about 48 hours free and since I have an AP and a rental car - I thought I could stop at WDW solo. I will definitely need a break at that point. Also I need to do some research at a few resorts for our next Feb. Trip (since SoG is closed all my original plans are messed up)

DH does that regularly so I have lots of days to myself at WDW. The first day I spent alone, I went to the MK and went on all the rides I wanted, as many times as I wanted. Went on TTA 3 times, the one DH won't ride because it's "dumb". Sat in Pinocchio's Village House waving at all the boats from IASW. I was definitely too excited to sleep in. I've taken many solo trips to WDW (where DH and his golf clubs don't ride the plane with me), and POR was always "my solo resort" until we joined DVC.

I've really enjoyed reading this thread. I'll have 2 nights and one full day by myself at WDW for the first time ever, before the rest of my party arrives. I'm really looking forward to trying out some solo time, but haven't started narrowing down what I want to do. So many choices, so little time! ;)

It's been fun reading everyone else's ideas. Thanks, all! :D

Kilee-I liked your post. I, too, never seem to get to explore all the shops. If I had a day to myself, I would love to explore every little nook and take tons of pictures with my digital camera. Some people have some great websites dedicated to their pictures...must make for wonderful memories.

I will be at WDW by myself or one day in October. First time ever going solo! I agree with spending the day at MGM riding ToT and Rock'n'Roller Coaster! That would be my ideal day! I think I would also hit some of the shows and behind the scene tours that are generally too difficult to get everyone to agree too!

If I had a day to myself at WDW there would be a lot of things to keep me busy and happy. I think I would start the day by having a nice breakfast. Then I think I would head to EPCOT and do a couple attractions in Future World. Of course then I would head to World Showcase and spend time there. It would be a lot of fun to check out the countries, shop, watch shows, and eat :D I might end the night by going to Downtown Disney!!!! I could wander around for hours!!!!! You'll have fun even if you are by yourself! :D

What an excellent question!

I would take the Backstage Magic Tour and learn all I could about WDW. When the "big kids" (my DH and I) have visited without the "little kids" ages 5 and 7 in the past, we've done the Keys to the Kingdom and Aqua Seas both of which we would highly recommend.
