what do you do with all the awards, certificates, plaques you earned at that company?

We don't wait around for layoffs to let the kids make art projects out of that sort of thing.

Apparently, you shove them in your trunk, bring them home and dump them in a pile in the garage. You can't bear to deal with them as the anger and depression from being unemployed sets in. By the time you find a great new job, 20 months later, you've forgotten about the awards and memorabilia and walk past the pile everyday as if it doesn't exist. When your wife asks what you plan to do with the stuff, you say you haven't yet decided. If you don't do something with it soon, it might start disappearing a little at a time and you probably won't even notice. I don't know if that's what everyone does with their stuff, but that's what my husband did with his!

I took mine skeet shooting and pawned off the cheesy watch.

I got rid of all mine via backyard bonfire except for the Star Award at one company.

I worked so darn hard and definitely earned that reward so even though I left the company voluntarily after it went downhill, I'm keeping that one. I use it as a paperweight in my home office.

Don't burn your bridges. I know a couple of people at my company who were laid off and then were able to come back. One person, it happened twice!

My Dad burned all of his stuff just today. No one at the company he was with even had the balls to tell him to his face, they sent a email.

Well, mine have been sitting in a box in my DH's office since last March 2010! I JUST last night decided I have to do something with the stuff and brought it out to the kitchen to start to go thru the boxes. Most everything will probably be put thru the shredder. No way I'll be going back to work for that company as just a couple months ago, the rest of the employees in my office were told that they're all being laid off starting next year!

I know someone that took all their old company's logo items...shirts, hats, jackets, etc. and distributed them to the first homeless person they could find on the street. Next day that person was dressed mighty well when they were panhandling.

I kept it all for a few months, then went thru it and tossed most of it. I was so upset at being let go after 8 years of hard work that I just didn't want them anymore.

i have two 1st place plaques for ad design and 3 certificates just sitting in my closet. i'm proud of the work i did and sadly the stuff i did up until last month will be labeled "staff" next year at the state awards time.

but everyday this past month i've been doing the freakin' happy dance i don't work for that place anymore.:banana::banana::banana:

and i can get copies of plaques if i win any next year...our names aren't on them. and i know which ads i did, so i can take the credit on my portfolio.

have i mentioned how happy i am i don't work for my previous employer?

That is a great idea...too bad I had to turn all of my stuff in!

Anyway, they never really gave out awards but 23 months later I still haven't gone through the boxes I brought home. I need to, but it's still hard.

I never burned my bridge, however they hired somebody brand new for my old position (I still haven't found a job and there are plenty of people who work there who know that) and they recently laid off my old boss. Would I go back if they asked me - yes so I would have a job...but I would continue to search for another one.

HOWEVER, with all of that being said, I earned an award at my part time job partly because I was able to give more hours/contribute more to the company! I was very honored. :)

I left mine on my desk when I packed up my stuff, although to be fair I only had one. I did not want anything to remind me of that company in my house or my life.
