We are taking DS for our first trip to Disneyworld during his 5th birthday. He loves all sorts of food so not concerned about that. Dad loves seafood mom not so much. We are on the cheap-o dining plan for 2 quick service meals a day. I want to do atleast one good meal and I also want to do something special for DS for his birthday. Ive researched and researched and I am more confused than when I started. If you could only do one Table Service meal with a 5 year old which would you do?

:welcome:

I would choose a character breakfast inside a park especially if you can get an early adr.

If you prefer something for lunch or dinner and without characters WCC is fun.

I would choose mickeys backyard BBQ. There are lots of characters and dancing and music.

Also on the quick service plan but we are doing 3TS and paying out of pocket.

We are doing Ohana for my birthday, scheduled at the time of wishes and I really want to try the food.

Then we are doing Chefs de France in Epcot...for lunch for 2 reasons.
Prix Fixe 3 Courses Menu $23.95, very reasonable price and the foods sounds great. Also Remy from Ratatouille comes around to meet each table and DS4 would love this. Only place to see this guy. I figured we would be seeing all the other characters at the park and all those meals get pretty bad reviews but are very expensive.

Last place we are eating is Rain Forest Cafe. If you sign up for a Landry's card it cost $25 but then puts $25 on your account to use the first time. Also in your birthday month you get $25 (expires 15th of next month). I dont think they have an age for the card so you could sign up your son and for $25 get $50 to spend on food. Also you could use this at T-Rex instead of Rainforest cafe...as its all owned by Landrys.

Good Luck

I would picked based in your 5year olds favorite character.

I'm not sure what meal you want to eat TS, but breakfast would obviously be less expensive than dinner. My kids really like Donald's Breakfast at AK (Tusker House). If you've never been to Chef Mickey's, I think that's a good choice (but expensive). My kids always like it there. You could choose from breakfast or dinner. Other non-character, non-buffet TS my kids like are Whispering Canyon Cafe and Ohana dinner.

If you want a non-character meal, I would do Whispering Canyon Cafe in Wilderness Lodge for dinner.

Since you are paying out of pocket I would try to do breakfast or dinner. Crystal Palace in MK for breakfast or lunch
Safari Breakfast in AK
Whispering Canyon Cafe at wilderness Lodge
Ohana Breakfast with Lilo Stitch and I believe Mickey

Where are you staying at?

I agree that I would do a character meal. However, I would base it on your child's preferences.

If you are going to AK, Donald's breakfast is really nice.

However, I also have to say, Crystal Palace breakfast would be great if you can get an ADR prior to park opening.

I would remember that he's 5 and you are probably more concerned about it than he will ever be - pick a place that serves his favorite food and run with it.

There are so many amazing place to have a meal!

But character meals are great, especially Chef Mickeys. I always have a GREAT time here!

I could tell you by park my best choices!

MK- Cystal palace hands down, get there early for a breakfast!

Epcot-Restaurant Marrakesh, I think your DS will have a great time with the belly dancers! I had a similar experience as a 5 yr old a long time ago, I was embrarased but I would never trade the experience for anything and it is one of my first memories!

Hollywood studios, defiantly Hollywood and Vine for breakfast!

AK-Breakfast at Tusker house

I would do a character breakfast because all kids love the characters and breakfast is a better meal than the dinners.

I took my niece to a few of them and she had the time of her life!

Thanks for the ideas keep em coming!

I am not 100% sure he will love the character meals since he is on the shy side. So, its wishy washy. He may hate it and refuse to participate or he may love it and dance and carry on. Just never know with him.

I dont care to spend $ oop for a couple TS meals just want to pick the right ones with good food for adults and good atmosphere for a lil one. :)

If he may be too shy for a character meal, what about somewhere with just a neat environment such as T-Rex, Rainforest Cafe, or Coral Reef? Or, there is Pizza Planet but I have heard the pizza isn't very good. I'm not sure how expensive it is, but there is also Hoop-Dee-Do Musical Revue that might be good for him. If he doesn't want any attention on him, I would skip Whispering Canyon Cafe and 50's Prime-Time. What about Sci-Fi? That might be neat for him.

The characters at a character meal are a little easier to warm up to than in the parks as it is more one on one. If being overwhelmed is an issue, Garden Grill is a perfect choice for a character meal. Because of the way the booths are set up, you can basically only see your table and when the characters are at your table, it JUST your, not other kids pushing into your table. It's not our favorite food, but the set up is perfect. If he is overwhelmed easily, rain forest might not be a good choice. Very loud and a little intimidating. May also want to avoid WWC and Prime Time Cafe. Maybe Coral Reef to eat with the fish, or the Japanese place in Epcot though he may get a LOT of attention form the chief there. Our shy 5 year old was not too sure about the open grill and all the attention but had a blast!
