So if you could do one special thing, for your family whilst in florida, as a total surprise what would it be??.

I say this as I have some time(and a day to fill on my schedule), I wanted to do something special for DS and DH as a surprise to make up for all the problems, weve had to suffer as a family in the last year(DH's health,my work situation, and the everyday things DS puts up with because of his disabilitys).

So what would you consider a special thing(apart from actually being in disney which is special in itself)

If money is not really an issue (?) I think Discovery Cove, Sea World would be wonderful. It's a new Sea World park, where you can do a "swim with dolphins program" with interaction with the animals and much more. The downsite is that it's very expensive.
I'm not sure but I think around 200 USD per person :-(
I haven't been there yet, but read lots of good things about it.
I'm sure you can find lots of info about it here on the DIS.
I hope your trip will be great regardless what you decide to do on this "extra day", have fun !!:jester:

I was considering this year to take a ballon flight which starts very early in the morning so you can watch the florida sunrise.
In previous years we have tried a helicopter flight over sea world which was very good.If you have not tried Busch gardens thats a good day out if you like roller coasters. As with the previous postings we are booking Discovery cove next year for my DW 40th birthday.
There are so many choices?
you will have fun on what ever you decide to do.:bounce: :bounce: :p :p :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

Sabine thanks, but we have done discovery before, I was kinnda thinking other than all the theme park things, balloon ride is a great idea, but im absolutely scared stiff of heights!!!.

I just thought somebody might have done something out of the ordinary.

What about Airboat Rides? these are available at the far end of 192 (Boggy Creek end) I think you can hire them or have guided tours.

For something more 'down to earth' perhaps a VIP tour of either Universal or IoA. These cost around £65 per person (I think) and you get your own guide for a tour of either park in a group of up to 15 people (although when we did ours there were just the two of us) The guide takes you round and gives you the 'insiders guide' to all the attractions and you also get front of line access to everything. DH & I did this as a treat and had a wonderful time. Someone even asked me if I was royalty as we were ushered onto a ride!! I would definately recommend it.

Whatever you decide - have fun!!

What about hiring a Limo and going to a really nice place for dinner? If you like Chinese, then Ming Court on I-Drive is lovely (but not cheap!!!!).

What about renewing your vows at the Wedding Pavillion, Grand Floridian, with your son as "best man"?

Hire an Illuminations Cruise boat at Epcot?

Fly to Miami/Bahamas/The Keys.....all can be done in a day with flights from MCO. Quite reasonable at around $89 each.

If your DH and DS are sports fans, then there is the Petty Racing Experience or you might be able to get tickets for an Orlando Magic game???

Might be able to think of more later!

Have fun.

Allie.

Thanks for your help guys.

Sue F, we have already done the boggy creaks airboat ride.

Allie 5 great idea, that one is lodged in the brain, the renewing of the vows sounds great, DH did say he would like to do this next year when we are in Vegas, how cool would it be to have some of the DIS that are in WDW to attend!!!.
Anybody have any info on where I can find out about cost, booking etc etc.

Allie, me thinks, perhaps taking my vows in las vegas next year seems a good idea, for the cost side of things!!!!.

Back to the drawing board.

Do you like animals? We went swimming with the manatees at Crystal River in December and it was the most amazing thing. I would thoroughly recommend this to anyone. We've been to Discovery Cove and this was 100 times better. It's a two hour drive from Disney, but we thought it was worth it and it only cost us $100 for the two of us, a boat to ourselves, a video of the experience and we even bought T-shirts for that price.

Hope that helps!

Jules - we just got back from Vegas and it was awesome we saw people getting married over the canal in the Venetian shops and it was very romantic.

Special thing in Orlando for us would be the Backstage Tour I really want to do this it looks like great fun. I've done the Keys to the Kingdom one and it was great - well worth the money.

You could try a trip with Aquatic Wonders on Lake Toho in Kissimmee (try this link); go ranching at Forever Florida in St Cloud (www.foreverflorida.org); be a Trainer For A Day at Gatorland (I kid you not!!), or go on one of their Adventure Tours to collect gator eggs, watch sea turtles or go air-boating at night; go kayaking in Kissimmee (highly recommended - but not in summer!) with Wayfun Kayaks - look up www.wayfun-kayak.com; or you could go horse-riding out at Rock Springs or in Poinciana (Horse World); then there's the Rivership Romance lunch cruise and dinner cruise on the St John's River in Sanford, go canoeing in Wekiva Springs state park or try the more sedate St John's River cruise; for all of the latter, look up http://www.visitseminole.com/what/attractions/outdoor.asp#st

Is that enough for now :teeth:

You could hire one of the little wooden cabins at Boggy Creek and pretend you are Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn- and really get away from it all-or there's the Champagne Brunch at the Renaissance Resort costs about $45
The Peabody on I Drive -also does the sunday champagne brunch as well.

You could get dressed up as a Southern Belle at Cypress Gardens-and also renew your vows there if you want to.

Have you been to Sleuths Murder Mystery Dinner Night. These are great fun. We've done two now. There's lots of audience participation and are a great success

Another place to get away from it all is the Bok Tower Gardens-down past Haines City. It's lovely and peaceful there and you could combine it with a trip to the restaurant Chalet Suzanne-which I keep promising my hubby and we still haven't made it there yet.

Have you see the collection of Tiffany glass in the Morse Museum-it's fabulous and there's so much to see and do at Winter park. If you don't want to drive out there you can get the train for a change. It stops in Winter Park tight opposite the squirrel park.

Another option is Sanford Zoo/ Sanford Mall and Sanford flea market on Fri/Sat/Sundays!

Oh yes and don't forget the newly opened Millennia Mall-with it's beautiful fountains etc
