if you bought the digital picture frame from Kohl's there's a problem

So I printed the rebate form for the picture frame and it says you must CUT OUT the UPC from the box in order to get the rebate. I bought this as a gift that I will be shipping so I will not be able to CUT OUT the UPC. Nor am I going to call the person and ask them too (sorry, but I PERSONALLY feel it would be tacky on my part)

I find this very irritating as I feel the offer of the rebate will not be turned in by most people.

If you bought the frame, what is your thought on this?

I had to do this for something once. Depends on the person but when they opened they basically said cool, you got a rebate, great job. But that's the kind of people we are, how good of a deal can you get on stuff.

Agree, you usually only have to score the outside paper layer of the box to remove the UPC so you aren't even damaging the integrity of the box.

I avoided it b/c the rebate seemed too much work.

For issue resolution, maybe photocopy the UPC and rebate form and keep that on hand.

The rebate specifically says no photocopies, I'm glad I didn't end up paying shipping and honestly, I will probably just return it to Kohl's, the whole UPC thing is just disappointing.

I understand what you are saying, I don't feel comfortable giving a gift that I cut the UPC out of, I bought it for the price after rebate, so I will return it and find another gift.

You could "gift" the rebate with the gift... if you were comfortable sending the receipt and the form...
I bought my mom a coffee pot from Kohls with a rebate. I will give her the rebate form and the receipt.
Maybe she will send it to me!

This is pretty standard practice for rebates. I have always had to turn in the original upc for any rebate I have sent in.

Anyway, I bought this for my MIL and she won't mind a bit that I cut the UPC code off the box. I will be opening the box and loading pics onto it before I give it to her anyway!

Exactly--which is why I suggested photocopying the originals so that if there is a problem necessitating a return---you will have the UPC so that kohl's can identify the product easily in their system.

When you purchased the item and put it in your shopping cart there was a question that said, "Is this a gift?" If you mark the box "yes" you will get a gift receipt for that item that you can send attached to the gift.

Also, make a copy of the receipt since the original receipt needs to be sent in. Usually rebates do want the UPC code unless you can do them online and just type in the code (like you can do at Staples with their easy rebate program).

Kohl's should get with the program and offer online rebate processing. The stores that don't offer it do it on purpose because statistics show that many people never hassle with sending in the rebate due to misplacing the paperwork or not reading the fine print closely. Kohl's was one of the last major retailers to not offer an online payment option. It had to be mailed in or payed in person at the store. I used to get annoyed by that and did write a letter to Kohl's stating they needed to start offering online web payments like most other retailers. Finally they did, but they were way behind their competitors.

I would just cut that little piece out of the box and then send it. That's what I'm going to do (I bought one too and noticed the same thing on the rebate paperwork).

Would they refund the amount paid, less the amount of the rebate?

Try taking a razor blade and gently cut around the upc code. Don't push all the way through, just enough to peel the top layer off with the code. I did this once and it really wasn't noticeable. The rebate was accepted, no problem.

They would refund the amount you paid in the store. The rebate comes from the manufacturer, not the store. If you are worried about it, write down the UPC code number on the receipt copy that you make. That's all they need is that UPC code number in order to find it in the computer. Kohl's has a VERY LIBERAL return policy -- probably the best around. They are very good about returns, so as long as they can find it in the system and you have a copy of the receipt, you shouldn't have any problems.

Heck, you probably don't even need your receipt if you made the purchase with your Kohl's card and do the return yourself. They'll have it in the system. All they'll need to do is swipe your card.

I'm sure they would. But that is why I said to photocopy everything. They can sell the item as an opened product. Or if the digital frame had a problem anyway, they would return it to the manufacturer as damaged anyway.

The issue is being able to find said item in the system.

For example--gap..they put the product number on their tags in their merchandise. This way--an item that doesn't hold up as it should after wearing it, can be returned. (speaking of a legitimate return). I had bought my oldest a really cute outfit once. She wore it once and it started falling apart. I did return it to gap who did feel I was doing an illegitimate return. But they did take it back.

An item from kohl's sold with a restrictive rebate policy--shouldn't have the same issue.

I didn't buy one, but most of the time when these are given in our family they aren't in the boxes anymore because the people have loaded the pics on them before gifting. They just rewrap the frames in nice packaging and voila, wonderful gift
