If you book your next cruise onboard, do you have to give a deposit or do they give you the paperwork to send it in after you return home?

We just got back from a 4-day and learned that you do, in fact, pay the deposit when you make the reservation. The good news is that you can cancel the ressie later on and get all you $$ back.

Hrmm... lets see, that means that if I want to book a second cruise onboard the first I have to come up with an extra $1000 for vacation. OUCH!!!

So... how good are the discounts if you book onboard?

You get a $200 shipboard credit if you book a7 day cruise while on board. I'm not sure what the credit is for a 3 or 4 day. You do need to give them your credit card at the time of booking and they charge $250 per person. You can still cancel anytime up to 60 days before and get a full refund.

We booked on board in May, and YES you do have to pay $250 a person deposit, in our case $1,000. She asked me if I wanted to put it on the credit card I had secured at guest services, and I said yes, so it was all done without even opening up my wallet. You don't see it on your bill you get from guest services at the end of your cruise. You see it on your credit card statement you get in the mail, the following month. The on board booking quirk is a $200 on board stateroom credit, for your next cruise.

I recommend that anyone considering a future cruise book this if you can free up the money. As others say, you can cancel for a full refund (as long as you do it before final balance is due) AND this is the only way that DCL gives out shipboard credits anymore.

We got a great Early Booking Savings and connecting Cat 10 secret porthole staterooms when we booked for Dec 2003 in May on our cruise. I can't wait until our October cruise to rebook another!! ;)

What is the furthest into the future that you can book?, ie when we go on our cruise in Sept 2002 can we book two years in advance?. Or is it only a year?. TIA

CathyCanada,
We were just in the Niagara Region of Ontario today (Ft. Erie, St.Catherines, Niagara Falls). Guess from two of our destinations, what did we visit?

Cumickey, I believe you can book onboard ANY sailing that is open for booking, and right now DCL is booking through April 2004. :)

You can book for any date in the future. We wanted to book for August, 2004, but the books are only open right now through April, 2004. They told us they would book us for April, 2004 and as soon as the books open for August, all we need to do is call DCL and transfer our reservation to the August date, that way we would be able to secure the $200 on board credit.
