If you add the dining plan later?

If you are less than 45 days from your check in and have already paid the balance on your package, then you call and add the dining plan - do you just pay the total for it at that time?

Call and ask the are a couple of factors:

Adding the DP is a change, so the change fee could be applied, Disney may or may not do this. There are reports that they've gotten tougher with this, but I'd love to hear your experience.

Secondly, you usually have up to 72 hrs prior to check in to add the DP so in theory you could wait until close to your trip (I'd do it no less than 5 days just to be safe) and even if its on the spot payment you have time to arrange that.

They wont charge a change fee if youre adding something to the package. It does have to be added outside of 72 hours and when you add it yes, you will have to pay in full if youre within 45 days

I hope this is the case. But some have recently reported that fees are being charged for changes, even adding the plan. That is why I would be interested to hear what this OP is told/charged.

That's what they told me... but, when I called 72 hours before my arrival to add the DDP, I was charged a $10 fee (plus the cost of the DDP) that the CM couldn't explain until he talked with a supervisor who said it was a "rush" fee... whatever that means.
