If we take a cab to the park

what do I do with the carseat my daughter rode over in? Are the lockers large enough to store a seat? Would they hold it at Guest Relations or the stroller rental, like a coat check? I know they are not required in cabs per Florida law but I am not comfortable with that and she needs to be in a seat. I can call for a cab with a carseat in it, but when we get a cab at the end of the night it will be whatever one is waiting in the taxi line at the Contemporary and I can't take that chance that one will have a carseat. Or do all cabs have seats stored in the trunk?

I am not sure your answer but Florida law requires a seat under a certain age 3 I believe. (You did not say what age the child is) At the end of the night I you still should be able to call a the cab company and get a taxi with a seat I would think. But who knows how clean it will be or if it was ever in a accident?

If you are staying on site and MK is still open it may be easier to just walk to MK and get a bus.

She is 2 but that is not really the issue, carseats are not required in public transportation but I require them for my child. We are staying off-site and not renting a car so we will be relying on cabs some of the time.

They are not required on buses from everything I have read they are required for taxis at least in Florida they are.

Locker inside the park are not big enough. I am not sure if they would store it anywhere else.

You're relying on cabs SOME of the time, what are you doing the rest of the time?

I'm guessing you're doing all this to keep costs down, but by the time you pay cab fare to and from the parks (multiple days), are you sure it's not cheaper (or at least not much more) to rent a compact car?

For the benefit of anyone else reading this I want to point out that children 3 and under are required to be in a carseat in a cab or any other public transportation that has seat belts.

How often do you think you'll use cabs? You could probably rent a car for the whole week for the cost of a couple of cab rides.

As far as whether or not you'll be able to store it at the park, I have no idea. :confused3

Truly, I can't think of anywhere you'd be able to store it with 100% certainty. Can you borrow, buy, or rent a stroller system where the car seat incorporated and can be removed from the stroller and secured into a vehicle? Then you'd be able to use/store it in/as the stroller seat in the parks.

Just to add to this post taxis need car seats, Limos yes, Disney Transportation no, ME no.

Actually, Fl law does require a taxi, limo etc to comply with FL law and have children in a carset until age 3. So you should be able to find a cab with a carseat if you call ahead. This will be easier in the am if you know your departure time but you will have to call in advance of leaving the theme park as well.

Honestly I doubt the lockers are big enough to store a carseat and I can't think of any place else you would want to leave it.

I know that cabs can run upward of $15 each way plus tip on property so I can imagine that cab trips to/from offisite resorts are going to be pricey. I think mears has a cost calculator, in your situation I would cost out the r/t price of a cab daily and see how it compares to a small car. This would also give you transport to & from the airport.

Good luck working it out !

Thanks for the responses. I seem to have read the laws via Goggle wrong.

kaytieeldr, she is 2y8m and the only integrated seat/stroller out there for a toddler is extremely expensive for this short use, very hot and uncomfortable and really too difficult to use as a stroller for more than the short trip in an airport. If she was an infant I would not hesitate to use the bucket seat.

We are staying with my parents off-site who do have a vehicle and they will be picking us up and dropping us off at the airport and we are all going to Tampa in their vehicle. Other times we will be dropped off at a park, taking the trolley or shuttle, and cabs sometime, mainly at the end of the night to get home.

We are not staying a week and are only doing Disney 1 day, the 5 nights we are in Orlando we would only need a car 2 days and a rental is way more than a few cab fares, plus the gas and parking fees.

OK, I will use a cab's carseat. If I call as we are leaving the gates and walking over to the Contemp will that give the cab enough time to get there or should I call much earlier. We don't plan on leaving the park until between 11 PM-12 AM.

Just a thought: you may be underestimating cab fare. When we stayed at Marriott's Grande Vista, which is not too far (right near Seaworld) the cab fare was between $50 and $60 to the Magic Kingdom. I was shocked a bit, but we had split up a couple of times and DH had the car.

It may be less to have your own car; I'd rather do that even if I were staying with family.

Otherwise, I'm sure you'll have no issues with finding cabs with a booster seat of some type.

You should be able to wait until you get to the CR to call. Bell Services can get a cab with a carseat for you. You could also head back to the TTC..should be available cabs there as well.

happymommy, that is good to know, since that is where we are staying! We have budgeted $50 each way so that sounds about right. The cheapest we could find a car was over $200 for Friday-Wednesday plus the gas and paying for parking, not worth it to us. And like I said, we would only need it for a couple of times. Plus I am the full-time driver in our family, I am on vacation and am looking forward to someone else doing the driving!

BTW, how long is the driveway from International Drive to the actual Grande Vista rooms? We have planned on walking to the trolley sometimes but on Google Earth looks like a very long road and that we would need a to drive from the parking just to I Drive to get the trolley on days we take it.

I've got another idea...

Get a cab from the Marriott to CR. Use your car seat. When you get to CR, check your car seat with the baggage folks. Use Disney transportation (or walk to MK) to the park. At the end of the day, go back to CR, pick up your carseat (make sure to tip bell services), and walk to the cab line.

I'm guessing you could do this at any deluxe hotel, and possibly some mods. It would be worth a call to find out.

That is a really good idea!

It will cost a few $ for tips but would definately work well.

That is an awesome idea! CR is the Contemporary right, the one about a 5-10 minute walk to MK? We had already planned on using that, and not taking WDW transp. so we would only have to unload/fold the stroller once. It would make me feel so much better to have her own seat vs. whatever is in the cab. (But still that would be better than no seat.)

Thanks everyone! Going to call the CR now.

Yes, the walk is probably closer to 5 minutes and you can also take the monorail without folding the stroller. I find it easier to walk to the MK and take the monorail back. Going to the MK from the CR on the monorail you will have 2 resort stops and the TTC. Going back to the CR from the MK on themonorial CR is the first stop.
