If we stay off site, do we need a car?

If money is a main concern, it is definitely worth laying out your day to day plans to see if it is cheaper to just use Uber or another ride share service, versus renting a car. The answer will depend on how much you plan to drive and how much a rental car would cost. We greatly prefer to use ride share if the cost is even close to the same, for the convenience, being able to get into a nice cooled down car, and so i don't have to worry about how many cocktails i have while on vacation.

If money is a concern than the LYNX bus is only $16 for a week (unlimited rides) and goes everywhere and is more punctual than the Disney buses.

Uber is great but not always the most reliable especially when it comes to arriving at parks for rope drop or when leaving a park at closing.

My personal experience of spending 40+ days in the Orlando area over the past two years, while taking Uber everywhere and NEVER waiting longer than 15 minutes (with most waits being much less), regardless of the time of day, leads me to believe that this statement is not true. However every day and every experience are obviously different.

It’s true based on my personal experience. I’m glad you didn’t have any problems but I personally would not stay offsite without a car.

Staying at Silver Lake Resort in August. Vacillating between driving and flying. Trying to keep things financially reasonable...quite a task with an Orlando vacation. If we flew, do we need a car for our off site stay? Looked into rental cars but prices seemed to have skyrocketed. Family of 4.

Use your own car

You will be staying just off Hwy 192 And within minuites of many eating places

Sit down or take away.

Also close to Hwy 27 for seeing the Real Florida for an afternoon drive.

You don't need one if you just want to get dropped off at Disney every morning and return each night. Silver Lake isn't really near any food or stores, so you would have to also take Uber if you wanted to eat off-site or get food and drinks for the hotel room. A car would make it faster to get to rope-drop, park hop, and off-site food.
