99 days until we will be back on the DREAM :cloud9:

I love Venice, would really like to go there. Does the Disney store there have the same items that stores here have? Are there special Italian themed items?

I think those boots are a smart idea. I take it they are an emergency item sort of like the plastic rain ponchos.

It is a really beautiful place to be, Doris. Lots of history, which I am sure you would love and enjoy.
Not sure about the Disney Store carrying the same items here as they do in the US. We very seldom make it to a Disney Store in the US (I know it is a shame!) but there is lots to shop in the parks. ;)
We didn't see any special Italy themed items, but as Jill said, she bought a Pooh bear with an Italian shirt and I know that the Disney Stores in London carry British themed items.
Those boots definitely were an emergency item. But they looked so funny, we could not help laughing. ;)

Great pix of Venice Karin!!

Thank you, Rosie. I am glad you enjoy them. :goodvibes

What amazing pictures of Venice! Makes me want to take that europe trip sooner...

I am glad you enjoy the photos, Ann! And am very happy to hear that you consider a trip to Europe ....... need a tourguide? ;) :lmao:

Hi Karin! Finally caught up again after a long absence. :(

Even with the rain and end-of-summer atmosphere, your trip to Italy looked great (again ) and so relaxing. Venice looks amazing! The food pics are so wonderful - I can’t wait to get there someday.

Can’t wait for more Italy!

Tell me about the days that keep me away from the DIS. Happens to the best of us. ;)
To be honest, even if the weather is not all that beautiful, we really enjoy the more quiet days when we travel. It was so relaxing NOT to have to fight crowds. Well, in Venice we actually had to. :lmao:
Venice IS really beautiful. All those historic buildings are just too beautiful.

If Italy is on your bucket list ....... make sure you stop in Venice. One of the most beautiful and unique cities ever. :goodvibes

My first thought when I saw your pictures - "wow, that looks like Epcot". :lmao: I definitely need to get out of the world showcase a little more and into the real world! That architecture is stunning!

They did a good job copying Epcot, didn't they? :rotfl2:
Well, Disney did a pretty good job with Italy, that is for sure. The buildings are all pretty old and the Venitians do a very good job at preserving. :thumbsup2 There are some more pics that we took from "public transport" which are really great. :goodvibes

I stopped at both the Venice and the Rome Disney stores and they *only* Italian themed merchandise was the Pooh bear. That was in 2007 so hopefully they get on the ball some of these days! ;)

I've been loving your pictures of Italy. :goodvibes It is definitely on my bucket list.

Thanks for pointing out that we're down to double digits! I really hadn't noticed because ... shhh ... a few weeks ago my DS announced that he would like to spend Christmas week at WDW and I just couldn't disappoint. ;) We're booked from Christmas Eve to Dec 30 at POFQ (and waitlisted at Kidani), and taking the AutoTrain there and back. We've never gone when it is SO crowded :crowded: (when he was younger we would always go Thanksgiving week), so I've been cautious with the planning.

Now back to your report!

Oh my goodness!!! That bread looks amazing!!!

And :cool1: on your upcoming trip!!!

And... I really need to decide about february. I am having a hard time thinking that I might not run the PHM. AND... being able to meet up with you would be sooo nice!! So... I will let you know... I promise. For now though... I am still undecided.

It was just as wonderful as I remembered it from being a kid. And you are 100% right .... it's even cooler with a Disney Store. :rotfl2:
But honestly, the city is beautiful and you can really feel the history in there. :thumbsup2

It looks splendid Karin pixiedust:

That bread looks delicious. :yay: for DLRP next week. Rachel is in countown mode for our December trip...41 days.

They sometimes have amazing London themed items but sometimes you only get one or two items.
I hope they will come up with lots of location themed merchandise in the near future ...... esp. now that we know of the Disney Store in Venice. ;) :lmao:

:woohoo: for going to WDW for Christmas. I am keeping my fingers crossed for you for Kidani, but POFQ is great at Christmas too. ;)
As for crowded parks ....... just be prepared. We went in July once and the parks were packed, but we used EMH and were prepared for longer waits - FP helps a lot. You're at Disney no matter HOW the crowds are.
Oh, and let me tell you that I AM jealous of you going at Christmas. It is so pretty all decked out for the holidays. :goodvibes

We cannot wait to go back to our "boulangerie" and buy some baguette. It is sooooooo good. The first stick doesn't even make it to car usually. :rotfl2:

Ann, should you decide against a February trip and I'll nag until you decide on a Disneyland trip in September 2014. :lmao:
I am sure that one day we will get together.

Wow! Only 41 days until your Christmas trip. Lucky girl! Where are you staying this time? :goodvibes

Day 2, October 27

Is there a Disney Store in Venice? - Part 5

I purchased two one way tickets and we got onto on of those boats. All I can say is, that this has been one of the scariest rides in my life. For once, there were a lot of people on these boats

IMG_7003.jpg

and I was really afraid of pickpockets, so I really clutched my handbag and tried to hold on to a pole for dear life. Then, these boats rock! And with so many people on them, it looked like we were going to sink any second. Whenever the ride was somewhat smoother I tried to take pictures as the city was really beautiful, but only when some people had gotten off the ship and we had secured a spot in which we could lean against a wall I started to relax and be able to take photos with more of a focus.

Everyone had to get off at the Piazza Roma and once we had left the boat we walked back to the parking garage where our car was. By then it had started to rain again and after we had put our purchases into the boot of the car we headed back out in search of a drink.
We both were very thirsty and picked up a bottle of Coke, a magnet for a friend of Tom’s who is going to Venice in a few months and Tom had spotted some

IMG_7065.jpg

special Venice beer which we bought and he took home and has yet to try. When we left the shop we noticed that there was a Gelateria still open and the ice-cream they had looked really yummy, so we both got a cone. Tom had

IMG_7058.jpg

Stracciatella while I wanted to try the Panna Cotta, which was delicious. It was a very rich vanilla ice cream with streaks of Caramel running through it. We stopped in the entrance to the “People Mover”,

IMG_6921.jpg

a train that takes people over to the cruise terminal and enjoyed our sweet cold treat and then headed back to our car which was parked just around the corner. We both had some Coke and then off we went.
Once we had crossed the long bridge again and were on the mainland,

IMG_7061.jpg

it started to rain heavily again but we were just happy that we had made the trip to Venice and that the weather had stayed mostly dry during our visit. Apart from more or less heavy rain the drive back to Lignano was uneventful.
Once we had reached Lignano again, we decided to do our “take home” grocery shopping right away, so we would not have to stop the next morning. We stopped at a large grocery store, picked up a few desserts and a few staples to take home.
About half an hour later we arrived back at our hotel, parked the car and headed up to our apartment. We rested for a little while, had a drink and then walked to the small deli up the road to get a few more meats to take home. When we left the shop it was pouring down with rain and we decided to stop at the next restaurant and have dinner right away. Funnily enough the next restaurant was the same one we had been to the night before. I had not thought that we would go for dinner, so had left the camera at home, but Tom had brought his phone. We sat down and were quickly handed a menu. Tom ordered

IMAG0163.jpg

a beer while I again stuck to the Diet Coke and we were quickly served both. We both ordered pizza again, Tom went for the

IMAG0166.jpg

Frutti di Mare again, while I wanted to try the

IMAG0165.jpg

Quatro Formaggi, a four cheese pizza. They were both really good, a thin, crispy base and lots of items on the pizza.
Once we had finished dinner, we paid the bill and hot footed it over to our hotel. We parked ourselves on the couch and watched a little TV. Tom tried some more of his beers

IMG_7062.jpg

IMG_7068.jpg

and some chips, while I tried some of the desserts we had bought. One was some

IMG_7067.jpg

vanilla and chocolate pudding which came with a foldable spoon. I think I bought it because of the spoon in the first place. And it seemed that the spoon was the best thing of it all. The pudding itself tasted like wallpaper glue and ended up in the bin. Then I tried another

IMG_7066.jpg

chocolate dessert, which wasn’t much better. Very thick and sweet chocolate ganache on top of a shortcrust cookie and topped with chocolate icing. Very sweet, but just not really what I like. So I gave up around halfway through it.

We never even bothered packing up in the evening and around 10.30 called it a day.

Day 3, October 28

Is that ……………… SNOW?????????? - Part 1

I woke up and it was already light outside. So I picked up my watch and took a look and it was past 7am.
Tom had set his alarm for 7am so we must have overslept until it dawned on me. That night we had set our clocks back to winter time, so we had gained an hour and it was actually only a little past 6am. One more hour of sleep, bliss!
We got up at 7.30 finally and while Tom got ready I started to pack up our stuff, which was an easy task, given that we had only been travelling for two nights. Shortly after 8 we headed out to the deli to pick up some fresh bread, but even though they had told us they would be open by 8am, they were not, so we went to the small grocery shop at the other end of the block. We quickly picked up some rolls and a little more Sopresa to take home and went back to the apartment.
We enjoyed breakfast, then packed up the rest of the stuff, headed downstairs to pay the bill and got our keys adjusted, as we wanted to stay a little longer than regular check out time. At around 10.30 we went for one last walk up the pedestrian area, popped into the deli to pick up some cake and jam for friends and after about half an hour returned to our hotel. We hauled everything down to the car, loaded it into the trunk and finally went on our way.
One last stop at the beach to see the waves crashing onto the beach and then it was time to go.

IMG_7077.jpg

On the way out of the city we stopped at one more market, as Tom wanted to pick up a bottle of a very special beer he had tried the night before. At around midday we finally were on our way home. We made good time and very soon hit the motorway and made good progress.

IMG_7079.jpg

IMG_7080.jpg

When we reached the mountains it had started to rain and was raining heavily on and off. It was awesome to see so many waterfalls that had been filled by the lot of rain in the few days before,

IMG_7082.jpg

IMG_7083.jpg

but it was still very grey and rainy.

IMG_7084.jpg

About an hour and a half after we had started driving we crossed the boarder into Austria

IMG_7088.jpg

IMG_7085.jpg

IMG_7086.jpg

IMG_7087.jpg

IMG_7089.jpg

and the higher we had got the more we had seen little flakes of snow and soon it was not only flakes, it was starting to cover the meadows left and right of the motorway.

IMG_7091.jpg

IMG_7092.jpg

IMG_7093.jpg

Austria welcomed us home with winter. Yuck! We still had to go higher and there was more and more snow. Once we had gone through the tunnels through the mountains we discovered that here winter had a firm grip on everything. But thankfully we had changed to winter tires before we had left, so at least there was no worry on that front.
Again, we got off the motorway after about half the way to drive into the next village and fill up the tank. Why get off the motorway you ask? Because gas is considerably more expensive at the gas stations along the motorway. Tank filled and legs stretched we headed back onto the motorway and continued towards our home. Our GPS had warned us again of a half hour delay so shortly before we hit the traffic jam we got off the motorway and used the local roads around Burg Werfen.

IMG_7094.jpg

IMG_7095.jpg

IMG_7096.jpg

IMG_7098.jpg

Shortly before Salzburg we got back onto the motorway having avoided the traffic jam. It was going on 4pm and we were now getting hungry and a restroom break would have been appreciated as well. So we hit one of the rest stations along the motorway, hit the restrooms and went back to the dining area. It was full in there, but we managed to find a table and soon were putting in our order. We both ordered a Diet Coke and some food. Tom had the

IMG_7103.jpg

“Bauerntoast”, crispy toasted slice of a large loaf of bread, succulent roasted pork, braised cabbage, Jerome cheese and a fried egg on top, served with French fries. It was a large portion and very tasty. I had ordered the

IMG_7101.jpg

“Backhendlsalat”, crispy fried chicken breast atop mixed salad leaves, grated Emmental cheese and shaved Parmesan. I really like that kind of salad and it really hit the spot. Once we had paid the bill we headed out to the car and it started to get dark and we still had an hours drive ahead of us. But the traffic had died down a bit and we made good progress and within an hour and a half we parked the car in front of our house. And another fun little trip had come to an end.

I am at work and sharing your Venice trip pix with my co worker Charlotte , she said Venice looked amazing and was intriqued that the City is built on water .. I loved all the pix, the boat ride sounded scarey:scared1:
I may be thinking of a Disney trip in Feb of 2014 not sure yet but thinking about it !!

Still loving the Venice pictures.
